Asthmatic Toddler
Does anyone have an asthmatic toddler.
Can you give me some more information if you do, ie how did you know, how does it manifest itself, how does it affect your childs life, your life, pets. What treatment you use, how you give it to your squirmy toddler etc.
Any info at all would be helpful! TIA!!!

Re: Asthmatic Toddler
my 3 yo has asthma - she's on singulair and we carry around a nebulizer with us after a very scary attack last Christmas - she breathed in strong onion fumes that gave her a bad attack But overall it's now under control.
We see a ped pulmonary specialist a few times a year for check ups.

Re: Asthmatic Toddler
How do you give her her inhaler?? I am really struggling to give Noah the Ventalin from the inhaler.
I am also in complete denial about the fact that he is Asthmatic. I feel terrible and don't really want to get rid of my cats, but it might have to come to this. Its awful.

Re: Asthmatic Toddler
She doesn't have an actual inhaler, we just use the nebulizer with attachment that goes into her mouth. My friend has a pump and inhaler for her dd but I think the nebulizer works better for toddlers.
We dont' have any pets and it's a good thing because we're BOTH allergic to cats and dogs!
The only real PITA about the day to day asthma issue is carrying around the nebulizer. Even a portable one still gets heavy but I'm so paranoid about not having it in case of emergency. That one attack came out of NO where - she would have stopped breathing if we didn't have the medicine within arm's reach

Re: Asthmatic Toddler
Rachee, I just saw this post now.
Noah should probably not be taking an inhaler, but a nebulizer instead. Babies dont' know how to control their breathing enough to use an inhaler.
Emily has asthma, had 3 attacks in 2 months, and that is when we put her on pulmicort respules via the inhaler, 2X/day. She hasn't had an attack since and that was in March.
FM me if you need to talk about this more. DH has SEVERE asthma so I've learned a bit about it.

Re: Asthmatic Toddler
My DD is asthmatic. Her pulminologist said that in children her age (and Noahs) that it won't declare itself until about the age of 5. Until then it's really a clinical diagnosis.
I agree with the other posters - Noah is probably too young for the inhaler.. We use the nebulizer and singulare once a day.
DD's asthma is triggered by environmental allergies (we had dog and had to get rid of him) and her food allergies - we avoid certain foods, and restaurants.
