DD is 18 months and we really try not to do too much TV so I haven't even tried to have her watch a movie. I doubt she'd sit through one for quite a while anyway. When did you start putting on Disney/kid's movies for your LO?

The main reason I'm asking is becuase I keep seeing commercials for Cinderella being released from the Disney vault for sale. I never paid any attention to this before but now I'm just curious if I should sorta stock up on these movies to give to DD down the road as gifts. Does anyone know how often they release the movies for sale? I was thinking about giving DD Cinderella for Christmas but then I'm thinking she's probably way too young. She will be 2 in March.

I think they re-release them every few years or so.

We introduced movies to DS at 2 1/2. So far though, he's only watched Cars and Cars 2. Sometimes he'll sit and watch, sometimes he just wants to play but, wants it on in the background while he plays.

I buy every movie that is released through the Disney Vault because they are not released that often. I grew up on these movies and have every single one on VHS (lol) and I want my children to have them too.

Re: At what age did LO start watching kid's movies and Disney movie question?

DD is 20 months and just watched her first Disney movie - Pooh's Heffalump Movie. It was on Disney Jr. one night and I DVR'd it. She doesn't sit through the whole thing but we leave it on in the background like any other show.

Only thing is - she cries hysterically in the middle/end bc Lumpy can't find his mommy. DD cries "WUMPY" Chat Icon and I feel awful but she asks to watch the "Wumpy movie"! DH says she's just like me: she likes to watch movies that make her cry!

ETA: I think it's a good idea to start stocking up on movies when they are released from the Vault. You never know if/when DC will get into a character and at that point the movie might not be available for purchase. I know I ran into this problem while buying for my niece a few years ago.

DD is a little over 2 and she really has no patience or attention span to sit through a whole movie length feature.
I also don't think she would "get" the plot lines.
Sometimes she can watch a show for a good 20 minutes straight- but thats about it

I would buy Cinderella now and even keep it for another year if you want. They only release them every so often. My DD really got into the princesses by age 3.

My DD latched on to "Finding Nemo" when she was 3 months old. She couldn't take her eyes away, I think the colors drew her in. It's still one of her favorites. She's 4 now and has seen almost every Disney movie over the years and she LOVES them!!! She always had a good attention span so even from a young age (I would say around 2) she would sit through basically the whole movie and watch. She is a Disney Princess addict! lol

Even if you don't want her watching them now I would still buy the the Disney movies when they are released and start your collection for when she's older. Chat Icon

DS didn't start to really sit down and watch a movie until 3 years old. Now he is really into Disney movies and his two other favorites (Nanny McPhee and Beethoven). He still wont sit through the whole movie. He only makes it about 45-1 hour. I know other kids watching movies much earlier then that.
I already had some Disney movies, so I don't think its ever to soon to buy them. Good to have them for a rainy day when you may want to try to get them to watch a movie.

So far DS actually likes all the old Disney movies over the new ones.

DS# 1 is 3 and 1/2 and I still have not let him watch a movie. For him it may be too much. I think 4 is a good age.

I think we let DS try to watch Nemo at 2.5. He got scared and we turned it off.

At age 3, we gave him Cars and Toy Story.

At age 3.5, he loves watching Madagascar over and over again. We have 1, 2 and 3 on our iPad and both boys love watching on rd trips.

My DS just got into watching Disney movies at age 2, last Christmas, so he was almost 2.5. Before that he would not watch for very long. Last Christmas I bought Toy Story for him and he still will watch the entire thing without taking his eyes away LOL. And he will watch others too (Nemo, etc).

This.

But my aunt bought most of them the first time out on DVD so cinderella we already have. And she's already seen the Tangled Ever After (we have it on DVR)

She started watching Yellow Submarine with me very very young. By 1 she would watch the whole thing. By 2 she'd ask for it by name. By 3 she could watch other movies but really Yellow Submarine has always been part of her routine.

She watched short movies like pixar shorts at 2 and would watch straight through, but its a lot of small movies into one.

Taking her TO The movies...? We tried to take her to see How to Train your Dragon at 2 and it was a miserable failure. At 3 she watched Ice Age totally without even a bathroom break.

I think 3 was the golden age of letting her get into and encouraging long full length film. I have some whacky believe that full length movies are better than 30min shows.. as it requires full attention instead of ADD switch-aroo
