8 wks....I started just putting her in her crib for her morning nap to get used to the idea of being "put down" for a nap.

Around 6 months. Before that she would just nap wherever (the swing, in our arms, in the car seat if we were out)... when she outgrew the swing we switched to napping her in the crib and started more of a routine.

Re: at what age did you start putting baby down for naps?
Honestly, I put my 4-month-old on a feeding schedule really early and at about 2 months we put her in the crib, but as far as naps were concerned, I let her fall asleep wherever, whenever during the day. Now that we started solids and things are "moving on" I realize that she will eventually (NO!! LOL!) outgrow the swing and bouncer, and need to nap in her crib. So, here's what I JUST started doing. Morning time, after her first bottle, I do let her fall asleep in her bouncy while I shower. She usually only sleeps 40 minutes. At noon though, I put her in the crib. She will cry for 5 minutes or so, then fall asleep. If I'm lucky, she'll do another 40 min. She rarely falls asleep again later in the day, but if she does, I let her fall wherever. So, I try for one real nap in her crib. If it's a day where she's missed her morning nap and blew off the crib nap, I will put her back in the crib later on and hope she takes one. Between her bottles, solids and now napping, it's damn tough to leave the house. On days we do, like today, I took her to baby yoga, we try to be flexible.

I'm so happy to read these answers! my son is 5 1/2 months and I have been allowing him to nap in his swing and in my arms sometimes...some friends say its a bad habit so I have been trying crib more and more, but its nice to know some of you started naps in cribs around 6 months

Re: at what age did you start putting baby down for naps?
On the days we're home, DD takes 2-3 naps in her crib. We've been doing this for at least a month. She's now 4 months. We don't have a set schedule (and the length of each varies). I follow her tired cues--usually 2 hours after her last. But I also let her nap in the stroller or car when we're out-and sometimes in the swing if I can tell she's overtired ans she just won't go down in the crib. She doesn't fall asleep in the bouncer anymore. She's not so good at falling asleep on her own. I usually have to rock or walk around with her until she's really drowsy.
