At what age did you switch from the rubber finger toothbrush to the real one with bristles?
And when did you start using the baby toothpaste? TIA!

At a year we started with a bristle brush and we use Earth's Best toothpaste. We do it as part of our bathtime routine.

How did you prevent swallowing of the toothpaste?

As soon as Ryan almost bit my finger off we switched to a regular toothbrush. That was the first and only time I used the rubber finger.

Re: At what age did you switch from the rubber finger toothbrush to the real one with bristles?
I just asked DH this question (hes a dentist)
I never used the rubber thing, he always said use a wash cloth & the brush (I used the brush just to get him used to it) since his bottoms grew in.
DH said all the baby toothpaste is is something abbrasive that helps get plaque off. He said the washcloth does a good enough job. He said once DS gets his "fang" teeth (i forget the real name for them that he used ) then I can start using the baby toothpaste b/c there will be more surface area to cover (I guess 6 teeth in front on top?) and less paste will be swallowed b/c more will be spread on the teeth.
HTH!

Are there any other types of toothpaste to use other than the Earth's Best? My DD is 16 months & has all her teeth (including "fangs")!

Yeah for now. I acutally see the gunk that I wiped off off on the wash cloth after too, like when it dries. I haven't asked him about any kind of brand of baby toothpaste...I'll see if he knows.

I pretty much just started brushing dds teeth.. I used the reg. baby toothbrush right away.. didnt do the finger one. Shes good with it. Her two bottom teeth didnt really come out all the way until recently, top two are still very close to gum so dont really brush yet.
