at what age did you transition from crib to day bed? and how?
DD is just turned 20 months. She fell out of the crib once already and tries to climb out,so we converted our crib into a daybed today, but no luck with getting her to nap all day or get her to sleep tonight. She kept crying when I put her down and then getting up and running to us . She has always been a very good sleeper. We decided to convert it back to the crib just now, so I guess that's it for now. But I just wanted to hear from moms who have gone through this and how you dealt with this whole transition from crib to day bed/ toddler bed and how old your DC was when you did.

Well we tried like you did as #2 is on the way in 10 days. We got her a toddler bed & she loved it & kept reading books in it & putting all her stuffed animals on it, but then when it came time for her nap, she tucked her in & she cried & cried. We finally went in about 10 minutes later & she was so worked up she got herself sick.
We now have it set up next to her crib & she continues to read on it & play on it, but not sleep on it.
We're not going to push her. She's now 21 months. Baby will be in bassinet for at least 3 weeks to a month.

We just decided to wait another few months, maybe she'll be ready when she is 2 . so hard to know what to do I def don't want to push her though and I also don't want to mess up her sleeping routine and/or have her sleep with us(not that's she would ever fall asleep with us, she is too wild ,lol) I guess we'll wait and see...
Thanks for reply

DS was 3 when we put him his toddler bed. We were not in a rush and he didnt really try to climb out so we just let him be until he really out grew his crib. He had a race car bed and transitioned within a week.

21 months b/c he was climbing out of the crib every 5 minutes at night.
The Bed rail we have is very large and he has yet to try to climb over it and get out of the bed , which is weird. LOL and he cannot fit past it. It is almost the whole length of the bed.
So he still calls for us to get him out of bed in the AM!

Re: at what age did you transition from crib to day bed? and how?
DS is 24 months now and we did this about 5 weeks ago. It did not go well at first. He would not nap the first weekend with it. He kept crying and getting out of bed--we thought he'd take to it quickly cause he's been napping in a cot at daycare wonderfully since 14 months. But after that, he quickly fell right into his daycare routine and has been napping with no problem. It's been the nights that drive me crazy. He used to go to bed without a peep and sleep through the night and get up at about 7:30am on his own. Now, he gets out of bed about 3 times before he falls asleep, it took 4 weeks for him to sleep through the night with out getting up out of bed multiple times (the last week he started sleepign through again), and he now pops out of bed at 6:30 am yelling MOMMY! as he runs downt he hallway It's taken about 5 weeks to basically get back into our old routine.
PS I wanted to put the crib back up after week 1, but DH made me stick it out. It's been rough on my sleep, and I felt like I had a newborn again, but he got it eventually.

Re: at what age did you transition from crib to day bed? and how?
Have you tried putting her in sleep sacks? A few of my friends say that they helped when their kids tried climbing or did climb out of the crib b.c they couldn't get the leg room needed to get out. This works for DD. She can't get her leg high enough to get over. What about the crib tents. I know that they work for some of the kids but we haven't tried one yet. DD is 22 months and I'm not rushing it - she would be up all night running around if she was in a regular bed. Although she does have one of those unfolding kids couches that she naps on - but as soon as the nap is over she is up and running around the room so I can only imagine what she would do at night when she wakes up.
