At what age do kids wait for the bus themselves?
DS is picked up right at our driveway. In the morning we usually sit together on the front steps. In the winter he usually waits inside the door and I look out the window, when I see the bus turn onto our street, he goes outside. In the afternoons I, or whoever is watching him that day, usually waits outside for him. But do you think that's necessary? He literally gets off the bus and comes inside. He's going to be 7 next month.

I have to see my child get on bus but I dont think its necessary to be out there waiting..waiting at the door is what I do (DD is 5) bus stop in front of my house also. My DS is almost 12 and I still watch him walk to bus stop but dont see him get off.

I think you could just stand inside and watch him get on/off the bus since it's right in front of your house. My son is 14 and gets picked up next door. I watch him get on the bus. One time I missed him get on, as I ran upstairs quickly. I felt really uncomfortable not knowing for sure that he got on, so I called the school to confirm he was there! I think the lady thought I was a weirdo, but oh well lol.

Getting on the bus I started letting him go across the street on his own in 2nd grade. I watched him get on the bus from my door. There are 5 kids at our stop. now at 10yo I watch until at least one other kid is out.
Coming home I really stopped waiting at the door in 3rd grade. I was concerned about him knowing what to do in case I got stuck somewhere and he beat me home. The families at our bus stop have all agreed on meeting places for the kids in case of emergency/parent not home. I did get stuck traffic one day, he followed the plan and went to a neighbors. I was more comfortable after that and stopped waiting at the door.

Our bus driver needs to see me if I am not at the bottom of the driveway waiting. They are 6 & 7 years old. I can wait in the garage and wave and I am good. That is what I do on rainy or snowy days.
