At what age is a child too old..

to accompany a parent when they are buying gifts for him/her?

would you bring your 1-yr old to the store with you when you are picking out her Christmas gifts.. or would you wait until you can shop without the baby, just on principal of not having her see the gifts before Christmas?

I think it depends. If you're getting toys, I say without the child. If its clothes, they won't care one little bit.

I took my 15 month old with me when picking out his gifts....he didn't know or really care what I was getting.

I think you can even go older than that for a child. My MIL said she used to take my husband shopping with her, and she just told him the toys were for his cousins. He never questioned it. I think you could do that til the child is about 4-5 yrs. old.

Of course, it would be more convenient to leave them home all together, but sometimes that's just not possible.

I took my one yr old, she didn't know. I distracted her with a stuffed monkey.

We had Nate with us when we got some of his toys and he's 18 months. Maybe next year we won't take bc he'll be 2.5 years old.

it depends on how close you do it to the holiday and how good there memory is... i took my sister and brother at the time 2 and 4 and it was about a week before and yet come christmas morning thoght santa brough it all

1 year - absolutely - they have no clue. I took DS at almost 2 and it still was no problem.

At 1 year old- they have no clue. 3 seconds later, they forget what you put in the shopping cart.

I'd say you're safe even to bring a 2 year old. After that...get a babysitter and shop alone. You'll get sooooo much more accomplished as well.

I would say 1 or 2. My 3 year old would definately know.

I went shopping with my daughters & they are 14 months

I did this year and DD was 14 months. I think next year I will only go without her although I could probably still get away with it. I would jsut worry she would want everything right then and there.
