I am wondering? DD is 5 and *could*open the car door herself to get out but can't since the child lock is on. Therefore, she either has to climb into the front seat and come out through my door or wait for me to walk to her side to open her door.
At what age do you think it's appropriate to disable it?

Me personally would wait, but I have a 5 year old boy who is a prankster. He doesn't really get how dangerous it could be to open the door.

I don't think you can put an age number on it. I would go be maturity level and how they act.

DS is 6, and I still have them on (which confused my SIL when she couldn't get out of the car the other day....
I'm not sure when I'll undo the locks, but DS is smart. He realized that DW has to open the door to take DD out of her car seat, so he just unbuckles himself and goes out her door...
