We got our attorney as soon soon as we had a buyer for our home. We asked for recommendations in advance from our friends and broker, but we committed to one of the attorneys as soon as we had a buyer.

You'll definitely need one after you have accepted an offer so you can get the contract going. I'd start asking for recommendations as soon as you put the house on the market.
