At your first OB appt. did the doctor do a sono?
When I had DC #1 I got a sono at the first appt. to make sure everything was progressing etc. But my new dr. office said they don't do that - I'll make an appt for a sono at the appt. for a later date. Is this normal? I just want to see the bean and then I'll relax a little bit. Maybe I'm just nuts? When was your first sonogram/ultrasound? Do I have to wait for the ultrascreen?

I did not. I had to schedule a sono.
Some doctors believe in not doing as many sonos.

Re: At your first OB appt. did the doctor do a sono?
At my first appt, i wound up being only 5 wks. They did do a sono, and i wish they hadnt. There was nothing to see which threw me into a whirlwind of worry.
Luckily today i had another and all is well.

Yes, but my 1st appt wasn't until 8 weeks, I know some of the ladies who went earlier did not get a sono the first visit.

Re: At your first OB appt. did the doctor do a sono?
We didnt do sono at first appointment on either of pregnancy.. it was the 2nd appointment. I was early with my pregnancies when i went so im sure they chose not to do 1st appointment b/c of the chance of seeing heartbeat or sac was low and didnt want to put me throught the stress of freaking out if i didnt see anything. Probable same reason for you!!
Congrats again!! Cant wait for your reveal.. tho I have a guess.

Re: At your first OB appt. did the doctor do a sono?
Thanks, ladies. I didn't think I was nuts expecting a sono at 8 weeks pg. I'm already having "issues" with this new practice: 1. could not get through from 1-2 on a Friday to make an appt., try again at 2:10 to find out that they turn off the phones on fridays at 2. issue #2: I call on Mon am to make my appt. and am told that only "Sheryl" handles making the 1st OB appt. and she'll call me back sometime today or tomorrow. She calls me back at 5:20 pm on my cell phone. I was in the car, so it was hard to completely focus, but I was told that at that appt. we will make another appt. for a sono, but she couldn't tell me how long I wait for that appt. #3: the appt. is with someone other than the doctor I requested (I think it's with the nurse prcationer, which will be fine with me at check-ups, but I really want to meet the dr. who will be delivering my baby at my first appt.) So I'm calling back today to change my appt. and request a sono. Ugh!!! Maybe this is not the right practice for me. And I am really not a difficult person. (90% of the time.)
Thanks for letting me vent. DH doesn't quite understand and I can't talk to anyone in "real life" about this since no one knows yet.

I had my first appointment when I was 8 weeks and they did a sono that day. They wouldn't see me before that.

sounds fustrating!! I would look into another practice if your already not feeling comfortable with how they run. Better to start off comfortable .. then to wait and then be in the middle of pregnancy and looking for new doc.

Re: At your first OB appt. did the doctor do a sono?
My Dr. does one every visit but most don't do that. It all depends on the Dr. I know my insurance company only pays for 3 sonos the whole pregnancy so my Dr. does it for free basically just to be on the safe side.

Same here. My doc says that he does it for his patients' piece of mind. I had my first done at 6 weeks and we basically just saw the heartbeat. I am 13 weeks and I have had 2 since that 1st sono.
