ats-w/last
Anybody have any advice or tips on either of these tests? I heard to do the essay first, but any other tips would be appreciated, thanks!

Check out the study guides for each of the tests--the ones from the test company themselves. I remember that the essays were a lot like the ones in the study guide. HTH!

Re: ats-w/last
They didnt have study guides or classes when I took the tests. I was in one of the first groups who took the tests when the state started using them and I had to wing it. Fortunately, I passed them all on the first try.
I wouldnt necessarily do the essay first, but make sure you at least look at the question and keep it in the back of your head while you complete the first part.

Re: ats-w/last
I didn't study for either of them and passed with flying colors....and at the time I wasn't even an Education major, I was a Speech major! They are all common sense!
eta: I took the LAST's first then the ATS-W.

Re: ats-w/last
I was a speech major too, and don't worry, they are pretty much common sense. I got a review book, mainly for the purpose of the LAST since it's been years since I took social studies, math, etc. I passed with flying colors too and scored perfect on both essays...the hint with that was to make the essay relevant to your specialty (if you have one). I wrote my whole essay around speech pathology on the ats-w. Luckily the essay on the LAST was on a topic I felt strongly about. Just make sure your arguements are convincing and you answer all of the questions they want you to address on the essay. With the LAST...well, it depends on what kind of test taker you are. If you fatigue easily, I would not do the essay first. When I took it (just this past august) the first 30 questions were on general knowledge stuff and the remaining 50 questions were on reading comprehension. By question 50 I was practically in tears because of fatigue...mind you I had taken the ats-w earlier that morning, so I was at my limit anyway. If I had done my essay first, I definitely would have been wiped. It was refreshing knowing that once the questions were done, I just had the essay to write and it was over. But this is just me. Everyone takes tests differently. If you can, do not take them both the same day...it's just exhausting is all.
Good luck!

Re: ats-w/last
I did them in one day, didn't study, and far exceeded the passing grade.
They are so easy. Don't stress. Just get a good night's sleep and go.

Re: ats-w/last
Do half the multiple choice questions, then the essay, and go back to finish the rest of the multiple choice. Someone told me to do this, and it made it easier to concentrate on all the multiple choice. Good Luck!

Re: ats-w/last
I bought a study guide. I studied physics (never took it) and chemistry (hadn't taken it since high school). I skimmed the rest of the book.

Re: ats-w/last
I took both tests in the same day...it is a long day and you are going to need a drink afterwards, but they really aren't that hard. It is a lot of reading, so be prepared for that! Good luck!!!
