teachers: help with ATS-P video please!
I'm so confused! I thought I had my lesson pretty much all set for my taping next week, but then I was talking to some friends who just went to a seminar on what they are really looking for in the teaching video and now I'm so confused! I teach 7th grade Spanish so I was going to do my short review of the topic /teacher instruction then get into the student centered activity. This activity is a game where students will have flash cards with verb forms on them and have to complete sentences they see with the help of a group using their cards. There's more to it but that's the gist of it. So my friends said that what they really want is for students to be doing partner or small group work and for the teacher to be walking around and observing and taking notes with a clipboard . Could you please clarify things for me! It's so expensive to do this that I don't want to fail and have to do it over!

From what you described, it sounds like you are doing small group work - the format should be teacher introduces lesson, class does work, teacher observes, assists where needed, and then a closing. As long as you follow what they want, I wouldn't worry. I think the most important thing is to make sure the length of the lesson is what they want (not shorter) I heard that they only watch random ones - I have never heard of anyone failing who followed the directions. Good luck!

I agree. Just make sure the time does not go over. Start with something whole group, stating objectives, then split kids as you planned. Monitor and confer where needed. I think what you are going to do sounds on track. Fm w any more q. HTH

The book where you get the application from has a list of rules. Here are a few" Remember to keep the camera steady No editing
I had 2 colleagues who failed - both failed because their tapes were too short. Make sure you follow the time guidelines!
Good luck!
