ATTAIN IVF- And.... Is two better than 1?
Has anyone used Attain IVF or other Multicycle programs?
We are starting IVF next year OOP and I am looking at the Multicycle programs.... The particular one is the 2 fresh, 2 frozen for a set price. I was wondering if anyone has used these programs? Does it work for anyone the first time??What happens if you don't have any eggs to freeze? Do you lose the two frozen cycles? I don't know how we will afford this!!
Also, we met with REs at LI IVF and NS LIJ for consults. LI IVF is much more price sensitive, but the RE there told me they would not consider putting more than 1 embryo back per cycle bc of my age (I will be 29)- like absolutely not- The risks of twins is too great. When I asked, NSLIJ RE told me she could not make that decision until day of transfer, depending on quality/day 3 or 5, and that it could be 1 or 2 put back and it is also a personal desicison that I have to consider. I prefer the NSLIJ answer, but maybe it is my desperation....
Am I right? Or am I desperate?? Is two really better than one?

No experience with the program, but I left NSUH to go to LI IVF because of IVF costs.
I'm 29, and Dr. brenner at LI IVF told me he'd most likely put back two but ultimately it is my decision.
I am so much happier at LI Ivf.
Good luck

ATTAIN IVF- And.... Is two better than 1?
Dr. Brenner did 3 IVF cycles with me, 2 when I was 29 and one at 31. My first cycle (chemical), we put back 2, not great quality. My next 2 cycles we put back 3 each time. My first cycle ended in DS, and I'm currently 16 weeks with twins.
Who did you meet with at LI IVF? Ask to meet with Dr. Brenner. Especially if quality isn't great, I'm surprised they wouldn't consider two.
Did the doctor ask your thoughts on multiples and you said you weren't okay with more than one?

ATTAIN IVF- And.... Is two better than 1?
I met with Dr Droesch at LI IVF and one of the questions I asked her during the consult was how do they decide how many embryos to put back. That is when she told me that at my age she would only put back 1 and explained the risks of multiples.... I actually said to her that I would prefer to put back two if it was possible and if it improved chances of ending in a pregnancy. She told my husband and I not to think that way, and that we will be "plenty busy with just one child." She emphasized that there is even a chance of ending up with triplets even when transferring 2 embryos. Another thing she did say was that there was almost no chance she would wait till day 5, and would want to do transfers on day 3. Which was different than NSLIJ, who said that decision also wouldn't be made until they see how the embryos move along, and there is no way to know before we get started. I don't honestly know what to make of these answers either- is one better than the other??
Can I ask to switch to Dr. Brenner? Or should I just tell Dr. Droesch that I am concerned that she won't even consider it before even starting? Should I be concerned about that, or am I just nervous?

Re: ATTAIN IVF- And.... Is two better than 1?
I think it depends on the quality on the day of transfer.
Clinic #1
My first cycle (30) - we put back 2 poor quality Day 5 embryos which resulted in a BFN.
My second cycle (30) - we put back 3 poor quality Day 3 embryos which resulted in a BFN.
Clinic #2
My third cycle (31) - we put back 2 Day 5 embryos - 4AA and 3BA and are currently ~21 weeks pregnant. This clinic really likes to do SETs, but on transfer day immediately told me they would put back 2.
I would recommend putting back 2 IF you are comfortable with having twins.

If all of your embryos look good on Day 3, I would push for a 5 day transfer - it does weed out poorer quality embryos.

I would definitely NOT push for a 5 day transfer unless you have a lot of embryos growing in the lab at that point. Poor looking embryos don't necessarily mean a healthy pregnancy can't result. My DD is the result of an embryo the lab thought looked poor and said would not make it to a 5dt.

I would ask to switch dr's. I saw dr Pena and had two embryos transferred at 30. At first he said the same thing - I should only implant one but my husband and I wanted twins so we implanted two and now I'm pregnant with twins! I also wanted to increase my chances because we also paid out of pocket and I didn't want to have to do it again. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Re: ATTAIN IVF- And.... Is two better than 1?
NS is a lot more $$ but I like their answer much better! Even at RSoNY, they transfer amounts and determine the day depending on the patient and quality of embryos. I think this should be the patients decision with advice from the RE but if it is what you want, ESP being out of pocket, I would go with 2 embryos. LIIVF is actually pretty good price wise and Brenner is very well liked here. You should try and set up a consult with him.

Thank you for answering! I almost felt like it was taboo to say I wanted twins, when I was asking ?s at the consult... You know we would be so happy to have one baby at all, but having 2 seemed like the best surprise ever to me! And then I sort of felt like I was being shamed for being selfish and wanting more during the consult. Sometimes I just need to be reminded to stick up for myself I guess!

I am SOOOOO thankful for this site and all of you who answer my questions with your experiences, and listen and give support! It really helps knowing there are people going through it, and people who have come out the other side!

Re: ATTAIN IVF- And.... Is two better than 1?
This is a personal decision. IMO just transferring one is two risky, however there are women who have success with this! Also, two doesn't mean twins, you should be prepared but many people transfer two to three embryos and one or none stick. Good luck!

LIIVF does a lot of 3dt because they believe your embryos do better in utero than a Petri dish. We actually froze 6 day 3 embryos.
If you are ok with twins and the risks, either talk to Dr Droesch, or make a consult with Brenner.
Good luck!

I have twins from East Coast fertility which is now LI IVF. I used Dr. Zapantis. It took me 5 Fresh IVF cycles.
