attention span
My son is in kindergarten and although doing well academically, he needs help increasing his attention span. I have noticed at home he is easily distracted and sometimes has a hard time focusing on the task at hand. I don't think it is intentional and willfully spiteful, he is a good kid. What can I do to help him improve his attention span? Are there games or tricks I can help teach him to improve it? His teacher is concerned that in first grade where the kids are required to do independent work more often that he will be distracted. Thanks.

Re: attention span
Have you spoken with the teacher about ADD or ADHD?

Re: attention span
Thanks, no. Neither the teacher nor I think he has ADD OR ADHD. He is neither hyper nor lethargic. He likes to play outside and exercise. If there is something that interests him, he can sit still and pay close attention to it. I almost feel he is board but I would love tips to help him increase his attention span.

Re: attention span
My DS is finishing 1st grade- very similar symptoms. He is doing very well academically. He is not hyper but not tired or overly quiet- just a slow worker who dazes out every now and then. His teacher has been wonderful with redirecting his focus and keeping him in the front of the group. I would ask his teachers to give you a list of their interventions so you know that they are trying all of the best methods. My DS's focus is totally improving and the teachers mentioned that they do not think it is ADD/ADHD if his grades are still great. My ped agreed.

Re: attention span
I had the same kind of issue, dd is a yr younger though. I had changed her diet. I eliminated Dyes, fructose corn syrup, nitrates and high sugar foods and she's like a dif child!!
I noticed after eating certain foods she would be off, and she wouldn't go to bed or take a nap. I felt bad for her.
Kraft Mac nd cheeses are the worst for her. She can only have Annie's. I buy Annie's a lot. Veggie link hot dogs from trader joes.....fm me for more!
Eta....more protein in her diet before school and for lunch helped her a ton. She will eat four egg whites first then I give her a small amount of pasta for dinner. Turkey bacon with some Cheerios for breakfast. Always protein!
