ATTN: NURSES/DOCTORS...anyone on right now? UPDATED: sorry to scare everyone.
I am having a throbbing/stabbing pain on my left side right now, it is not enough to have me doubled over in pain, but it feels like a tightening and pins and needles. It comes and goes. Sorta feels like endocarditis, but not AS painful, KWIM? I just saw the card about four weeks ago and I was fine. No endocarditis and he took me off the beta blocker.
Last time this happened was before my heart surgery. We had to wake up the baby and go to the ER 45 minutes away. They did tests and sent me home. Should I drive the hour and fifteen to Columbia Presbyterian (Where I had my surgery and my card is there) in NYC and go the that ER?
WHat if it is just a pulled muscle or something? Husband has work tomorrow and is sound asleep, so is my my two year old daughter.
I am going back and forth in my head...spend a miserable time at an ER all night, no one will get any sleep, it would be horrible. Plus, if I go to the nearest one, what I have is rare and ER's really do not know how to handle it. I am afraid I would get meds or a misdiagnosis if I go the ER nearest to my house.
OR
call my card in the morning?
BUT What if I go to bed and it is something serious?
I am freaking right now...
UPDATE 7/17@ 9:15 AM: So after I signed off last night I woke up DH. Part of my "protocol" when going to the ER is to call my cardiologist and leave a message with the answering service to give him a heads up about what is going on. The last time we did this he called the ER a few hours later. BUT this time he called the house just as we were getting ready to leave and about to wake DD. HE told me to put on my heart monitor that I use for working out to make sure I was not in Atrial Fib. I was not, heart rate was normal. Since that was the case and my pain was not constant or getting worse. He told me to wait it out at home, try to get some sleep and if I am still in pain thought the night or in the AM to call and go the ER at Columbia. The last time I went to Good Sam in Suffern (which is a great hospital) and my card was on the phone with them the whole night telling them how to take care of me. Since what I have is so rare, the "normal" way to take care of a "heart patient" does not apply. Plus they brought in ALL the interns to poke and prod me as well. Just so they can listen to a heart in Atrial fib that has CC-TGA.
So I slept through the night and the pain is still there but it feels better than last night. I am calling the card today and may have to see him today, which stinks. His office does not get in until 10AM, and I will be calling them then. The pain is definitely not as bad as last night and since I slept all night I am sure it is nothing serious. I will update later after I call there. Donna- I may need to take you up on watching Gracie if he wants to see me today I will call you later. DH went to work but he is in the city and can meet me at Columbia if my card say to come in.
Thanks for all the and . I can use right now as I do not want to go into the city to see the card today and I DO NOT want to go back on my beta blockers...I have already lost 6 pounds (in 4 weeks) and I feel great (more energy) besides this situation. I am afraid he will put me on meds again. I know that should be the least of my worries right now, but I have worked so hard in the last few weeks to loose weight and exercise and prove that I do need my beta blockers. i am just so frustrated.

Re: ATTN: NURSES/DOCTORS...anyone on right now?
I'm not saying this as a nurse- just as a poster... You know yourself and your body. This is not a normal feeling for your body, then i don't think you should ignore it. I dont know which hospital is the better choice for you- but i definitely think that it's something that you defintely need to get checked out asap.

so it would be worth it to wake up everyone? in your opinion? Cr@p I do not want to do this.
ETA: It is NOT that painful, more annoying. Then a stabbing pain every 1-2 minuites

Honestly, with your history- i wouldn't mess around. Inconvinience is not a good enough reason to ignore what you're body is trying to tell you in this case

Re: ATTN: NURSES/DOCTORS...anyone on right now?
Ok, one more question...I took a yoga class tonight at 6PM. Could this be from a pulled muscle? It does not feel like that, but maybe?
I know I am being a moron right now, but I really do not want to put my family through this tonight. It was horrible last time. I was in a bed in the hallway. They did nothing for me but run tests and send me home 8 hours later.

The only way to know is to go there and let them run their tests. I know last time sucked, but you can't ignore this time because of it.
