Re: Aug/Sept 1st b-days
great idea.....we're doing a backyard party, pretty low key. I think we're going to hire a clown and I'm debating on a tent (they're soo expensive!!!) I'm just starting to price out the paper goods and it looks like birthdaydirect.com is the cheapest.
We're getting a hero & salads for the adults and pizza for the kids.

Re: Aug/Sept 1st b-days
We are also doing a backyard party. We are going to do sandwhiches and some hot trays. We rented a tent...but no clowns or characters or anything. Trying to get a handle on the guest list so I know how many people to make food for

Re: Aug/Sept 1st b-days
My DD's bday is Wednesday and her party is a week from tomorrow. We are having a pool party at my mom's house. She has a nice inground pool, but I'm also bringing a baby pool. I hired a lifeguard to sit at watch the pool just in case. For favors I did personalized sand pails and stuffed them with age appropriate things. Food we are doing a hero and pizza for the kids. I didn't do anything crazy with decorations. For her cake I'm using a lady who does it out of her home. She was recommended to me by 2 ladies on this site.

Re: Aug/Sept 1st b-days
Ryan turns one next Wed and his party is next Sat. We're in VA so I had to get a tent for shade, and rented 2 large fans also. Food being catered but nothing fancy. Beer/wine for adults. Baby pool/slip n slide for kids. cake/coffee - probably went overboard on decorations but that's bc I started early and forgot what I already bought! Party starts at 2PM and Ryan should wake from his nap around 3 ready to go!

Re: Aug/Sept 1st b-days
our party starts at 3pm. I am cooking so that gives me enough time to tie up loose ends and get everything up and running. i think i am going overboard with how much food i am making, have to rethink menu.

Re: Aug/Sept 1st b-days
DD turns 1 on Tuesday, but we are doing her party on Sept 2nd.
Its at my parents house in their backyard since they have a pool.
We are doing a Dora Theme.
We have a tent/chairs/tables borrowed.
We aren't having a clown or character or anything.
We are doing food. We just haven't decided on what yet.
About 50 people.

Re: Aug/Sept 1st b-days
DD turns one tomorrow and I went a little overboard. The running theme is Pink Flamingos so there are little touches of flamingos and palm trees throughout. I'm having it out at a yacht club so the room and deck overlook the marina and Npt. Harbor. I have about 55-60 ppl all together. I'm having clowns come for the kids since I have about 12 of them. I had personalized favors made up by Jonick and filled them with stuff. I have lots of balloons and I have pink flamingo lollipops as the party favor. I'm looking forward to it! I'll post pictures when it's all said and done.

Re: Aug/Sept 1st b-days
for those not having characters how do you plan to "entertain" the younger guest. i don't have a pool so that option is out for me.

Re: Aug/Sept 1st b-days
DD's turning 1 a week for Sunday and that's when we're having her party. We're doing it in the backyard trying to keep it small. Thankfully my neighbor is lending us her tent. We're doing most of the food ourselves (salads, hot dogs, hamburgers, and shiskabobs) and ordering a few trays from the local pizza place. Most of the guests will be adults but for the few kids at her party I have her baby pool as well as a little slide to entertain them.

We don't have a pool and we have a small yard. I have an 11 year old stepdaughter so I am putting her in charge of entertaining the little ones I think I'm going to go to AC Moore or something and try to find 1 or 2 little craft things she can do with them (the ages range from a few months to 11 years old). Maybe get some bubbles too. Coloring books/crayons. I haven't really figured it out yet

we only have 4 kids - ryan, a 5 month old and my 2 nephews who are 5 and 8. got the slip and slide for them, plus silly string and they love to look for frogs in our pond so that should keep them busy.

I'm from the old school of thought where kids can entertain themselves, lol
I'm not hiring a clown or anything like that. At my friends DD's 1st bday they hired an elmo to dance and play with the kids. All the babies that were 1 or younger SCREAMED and cried when it came out. Including the birthday girl.
Maybe when he is older, but for now, nope!
We are doing a party at greis park in lynbrook. Heros, cake, pizza, beer and soda. We don't have a lot of $$ and I can't justify an expensive 1st bday anyway. I think it'll be fun though!
