Babies/Children/Toddlers/Kids With Food Allergies Support Thread
I think this might be a really good idea to start....there are SO many of us with kids with food issues.... I'll start:
I'm mommy to 1 year old Emma - a soy allergy gal (discovered at 6 months). She had rashes that weren't going away and after many a doctor visit, we finally saw an allergist. She came up positive for the allergy with her blood tests, but the scratch test didn't show it. Once the soy formula was stopped, the rashes magically went away.
This is a TOUGH allergy and i'd appreciate ANY support out there! KerriSteve has already been a Godsend - but there have to be more of us with soy allergy children or other food allergy kids...
let's help each other!

Re: Babies/Children/Toddlers/Kids With Food Allergies Support Thread
My 4yo DS has a severe dairy allergy. He tested positive in both blood and skin tests before he turned one, and it has gotten worse every year even though he's not ingested any dairy since he was about 5 months old.
At first I was VERY overwhelmed, but I found the community at Kids With Food Allergies and the resources at the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network really helpful, especially their How to Read a Label for Food Allergens
And as a tip for those of you with younger kids, IMO it's important to talk to your kid often about what their allergy is so they are well aware that they can't eat anything with that in it. Andy can't read the label for himself so when he's at school or a party he will ask the adult if there is dairy in a food item before he touches it. If they say they don't know he will ask if they have something (like Oreos) that he knows he can eat.
ETA: Also, I have these FA Alert labels that I stick on his lunch bag and his teachers have said it was really helpful in the beginning of the year to remember he had food restrictions. They are much clearer in person.

Chloe ( currently 8 and 1/2 mnths) has a bad milk protein and soy allergy ( discovered at like 10-12 weeks)....
So far its not too hard as she eats mostly jarred baby food.
Eta- what kind of rashes did Emma have Jess? We are seeing a dermatologist for Chloes rashes, and she gave us Steriod cream, which worked, but I hate using. I feel like it might be allergy realted.

Rashes (actually eczema) are common with dairy allergy (not sure about soy). I hated using steroid creme with Andy, our derm gave us a script for Atopiclair which is non-steroidal and worked great.

these are all pics of Emma's reaction to soy (her most recent photo isn't here - but it was like a cut across her tummy).
we have a steroid compounded with a moisturizer for flare ups...
