Mom's of kids with food allergies...
How often do you challenge the allergies at home and how do you decide when it is time to try?

I was under the impression that my doctor would give me a schedule. DS has an egg allergy and we are not going to challenge it for several more months--it will be over a year from his diagnosis to the time we challenge it. He does get trace amounts of egg, though, just not anything made of mostly eggs. His allergist is from a practice that I went to for a long time and I am comfortable following his advice.

never! our allergist does food challenges in the office, but i believe it's only after getting test results back that show an improvement in the allergy. a few weeks ago my dh accidentally gave Brendan a cup of cow's milk and we ended up in the ER so I will leave the food challenges to the pros!

I've never done a challenge at home unless it was accidently that DS or DH has given her and that was with dairy. I wouldn't do it with egg because the allergist doesn't want her touching it but she is ok with trace amounts in food.
So, then how often do you go to the allergist. She went at 6 months for initial visit, 9 months for a follow up then 15 months. I was going to bring her back when she was 2.

we go every 6 months, but he's only tested 1x a year. he was tested in august, but when we go to the ped for his 3 year visit I'm going to ask to have him retested because I think he had a reaction to peanut butter recently. when he was last tested they only tested him for the things he had previously tested positive for so they didn't test for pb.
