Re: Babies Flying
If DC is under two, you can hold them on your lap and not buy a ticket. It's not very safe, however, and it's highly recommended to buy them their own seat so they can be strapped into their carseat on the plane.

Re: Babies Flying
If they are under 2 and will be sitting on your lap you dont have to pay for them. (I think maybe just taxes, but I am not entirely sure on that. You'd have to check with the airline). If they are under 2 however you are getting them their own seat, you would have to pay for them.
If they are over 2 they will need their own seat and you will have to pay for that.

Re: Babies Flying
If you go on Southwest - they go into detail about it
--If you have them in your lap - its free
--they also have a 'special' fare for children (I believe under 2), but I found that when we flew with DD, her seat was cheaper if we bought her a regular seat then a 'special fare'

Re: Babies Flying
I have never paid for a seat for DS yet I have flown with him in a car seat every time. I schedule all my flights for off times and watch the flight to ensure it isn't full. The only time I thought I would have a problem was when I flew alone with him from Florida and there was a wait list to get on the plane. I played the pregnancy and traveling alone card and I was all set! If you want to be guaranteed a seat, you will need to pay a fair, sometimes it is full fare , some airlines it is a discounted rate. If you fly international, you will need to pay the taxes on the baby, regardless if the child is technically a lap child or not. You will also need to "register" the child as a lap child and have a passport if you are traveling internationally.
Let me know if you have any further questions

Felice... Theresa was asking for me... I am flying to Mexico this summer with Kristina, and I'm trying to find out about what my limitations are going to be with regard to everything.... the fares, and our luggage!

Re: Babies Flying
I think there might be a difference in domestic v. international flights. My brother is going to Europe this summer with his son who is under 2 and they are paying about $400 which I believe is the taxes and he is NOT getting a seat

Re: Babies Flying
We have flown twice with DS, both times to Florida. We have two more trips planned in the next 6 months.
For domestic flights, if the child is under 2 you do not have to buy a ticket, but can if you want to. If DC is still in the infant seat, you can gate check the infant seat and the stroller.
For international flights, I believe you have to pay taxes, we are flying to Italy in October and that is what we paid.
As for luggage, when we flew Southwest, we each could check two bags. When we flew Jet Blue, we were told that baby gear (i.e. pack and play, etc) didn't count and we could bring and check a ton of it.
But I'd call your airline and make sure what those regulations are
