babies in the sun

With summer approaching, I was just wondering if any moms have tips for bringing your baby to the beach? We just planned a trip to Florida with DD for July 4th, and we may take her to the beach before then. She will be 7 months when we go to Florida. I believe SPF is safe to use at that time (I think it's 6 months, but will confirm with my ped). We also have a UV tent, sun hats and sun glasses. Any tips or recommendations?

Re: babies in the sun

I would get some rash guard tops instead of a traditional bathing suit.

Sounds like you've got your bases covered. I just like to keep DD in the shade as much as possible, even when she is wearing sunscreen. So the tent would be perfect!

What about the sand? Anything I need to be aware of? DD puts everything in her mouth, so I know I need to be careful about that. And about her getting sand in her eyes (i think the sunglasses will help that.)

I agree with Summer that the rashguard top is a good idea, be forewarned that white shirts do nothing in the sun.

As for sand, she will learn that it tastes bad, and a little sand in the mouth never killed anyoneChat Icon

Also, baby powder works great in getting sand off the skin (it sticks to the sunblock). Just get one that is made with cornstarch.

I would only allow DS to be in the sun before noon. Preferable from 6 to 11 a.m
