Babies R Us VENT! UPDATED
We have our crib on our BRU registry. My MIL went to purchase this two weeks ago, and was told that it would be available on 5/7, but was not charged for it, and it was removed off the registry. Apparently, she was recently told that not she would have to pay a $120 fee now, because it won't be available, and needs to be shipped from another store. Either that, or she would have to pick it up in another store (most likely far). What makes matters worse is that they had the item on hold for her in Staten Island, along with another couple, but only ONE crib... how the f**k do you have TWO people on hold for the same item!????? And the other couple have already picked up the item.
I am LIVID, and the excuses just keep unfolding....
Update: I was wrong to vent about this, because apparently it's NOT entirely BRU's fault. I was under the impression that the item HAD been ordered, but that was false. When MIL went to purchase it, it was not in-stock, but was told that it should be available 5/7. That was their only mistake. No other store has it available, at the moment, and had it been, then they would charge a delivery fee. ALSO, two people were NOT on hold for the same item. In actuality, one couple had it on hold, and had they not picked it up, then it would be on hold for us.
Regardless of the mixup, the outcome is still the same... the crib will take longer than expected. DH wants us to choose another crib so that MIL does not go empty-handed to my shower (dunno when it is). But I don't want to choose another crib, because I love THAT one. I still think we can still wait on it, but the worse case scenerio is that we'll get the crib AFTER the baby is born. Ugh... what a mess!

I hate BRU! I boycott them as much as I can. Everything we buy from there always has something defective- most recently we bought gates. Well one most have been a return. We needed a gate to go across a 6' opening. Anyways, the pieces were bent- the screw holes and been widened and the end brackets were the same when they were supposed to be two different ones. I HATE THEM!

I woudn't pay a fee. I would write an email to them telling them that they sold you a crib and you want them to deliver it as promised.

Updated... BRU isn't completely at fault. They fault was that the person MIL originally talked to said the crib would be in stock 5/7, when they're really not sure.

Glad you feel better, if you like the crib, then have your MIL wrap a PICTURE of the crib, so she doesnt feel like she is emptihanded. That is what I have seen in the past. The mother to be would open a box with a pic of the nursery furniture

Acutally, one other option that I have is to take the floor model. Apparently, it's not bad, just has a dent/scratch from a shopping cart...

My mother put a picture of my crib and changing table in a small box and wrapped it...and my Aunt did the same thing with my glider...because they had the items shipped directly to my house so that i wouldn't have to cart that from my shower to my home...it was just easier that way.

don't take the floor model...the baby probably won't be using the crib right away anyway...I would wait for a new crib...you never know who has been hanging or tugging on the floor model. My DH was tugging at the floor model to make sure that it was sturdy...I'm guessing that alot of dads do that.

SO I got somewhat good news.... maybe to good to be true........
The manager helping us out at BRU says he found one in stock in NJ. Apparently someone had ordered the same crib, and is returning it, unused/unopened, because they don't want it anymore. So there's a 99% chance that it's ours, because they already spoke to the store to hold it for us, and they will ship it from NJ to Queens for us to pick up this weekend. There's a chance (1%) that it could have been offered/sold to someone else, but the manager doubts it. We will find out on Thursday. Cross your fingers everyone!!!!!!!!
