Baby acne or an allergy?
DS started to get little red pimples on his cheeks and neck and I thought it was prickly heat but now they are more like white heads on his face, chin, neck and shoulders. I have read up on baby acne but could it be an allergy to my breast milk? I dont have another ped appt. until Nov. 6th. ( will be 3 weeks old on Thursday) TIA

Re: Baby acne or an allergy?
Sounds like acne to me. If he doesn't have any other signs of an allergy (screaming in pain or mucous in his stool), then I would guess that it is the acne.
Try regular baby shampoo, it helps.

It sounds like baby acne. Lance had it. It went away in about 3 weeks.

Re: Baby acne or an allergy?
We had the same issue and it turned out to be a milk/soy allergy. Drs told us for the first month that it was acne, but it looked too uncomfortable.
Does he have it all around his ears?
If I were you, don't have any milk products for a week, then see if it clears. Josh's cleared up in 3 days.
At about 3 weeks old, his poop went from mustard to green and mucusy. When I stopped eating soy it went back to normal.
so watch out for poops...I would cut out milk and all milk products for a week. cheese, whey, casin...
I HOPE its acne(coming from a milk free soy free mom for the past 8 months)

Yes. Just use the shampoo as body wash. Rub on his face too.

Re: Baby acne or an allergy?
I actually just called DS's dr. about this yesterday. He has a few little red bumps on his cheeks that come and go - Dr. said it is baby acne and will come and go over the next few weeks - and will be worse on whatever side he leans on.
The ped. actually said to use nothing at all on it to prevent it from getting worse and he said no soap from the nipples up - just water - except to wash his hair but avoid getting it in his face.
Hope this helps

Re: Baby acne or an allergy?
That's the right age for baby acne. DD got a SCORCHING case of baby acne at around 4 weeks. I seriously thought it would never go away. I used the Johnson and Johnson's baby shampoo. Put a little on a damp cotton ball - rub it on baby's cheeks, wipe off with damp cloth or another cotton ball.
DD's acne went away in about 3 weeks or so, maybe a little sooner. It probably would have gone away even if I hadnt done anything - but I remember that it was really bothering me. . . now her skin is just perfect - and I'm the one with the acne!

Re: Baby acne or an allergy?
I alsways thought you should leave it alone.
It may be dermititis though - that you can put hydrocortisone gel on.
