Baby allergic to milk, but CAN eat cheese, yogurt
My 17 month old is allergic to milk. I found out when I tried to introduce cow's milk from formula. The weird thing is that he drinks Good Start which is "milk based". He drinks this with no reactions. When I tried to introduce cow's milk he would throw up. He had blood work done and the tests resulted in allergy to cow's milk. I tried soy milk, but he hated it. So, now, at 17 months old, my son is still on infant formula because I don't know what else to try. He eats cheese and yogurt with no problem. His doctor told me that whatever he is allergic to in cow's milk is not is probably not in processed foods and that's why he can eat the yogurt/cheese, etc. Does anyone have any advice on what I should switch him to? I can't keep him on baby formula forever. Has anyone been through this type of problem?

I'm sorry. I don't know anyone with milk allergies like your son.
I would start mixing the formula with soy milk & gradually switch him to soy milk when he gets used to the taste of it.
I think your pediatrician should come up with some more options for you other than keeping him on formula. Not only is it not feasible, it's

hannah has a milk protein allergy but can eat cheese and yogurt. she will be 12 months next week. we are transitioning her onto soy formula and once she can drink that then we will try milk. we are transitioning her very slowly.
i would start by putting 1/4 soy milk mixed with 3/4 formula and try that for a week, then do 1/2 soy milk, 1/2 form, etc etc.

Re: Baby allergic to milk, but CAN eat cheese, yogurt
They diagnosed him as milk allergic but he can tolerate cow's milk based formula, cheese and yogurt? That doesn't sound right. I'd get a second opinion from an allergist, some kids who are allergic to cow's milk and milk proteins are also allergic to soy products. I'd hate to switch to another product that makes him sick if an allergist could tell me for sure what the best course of action is.
My son is diagnosed as both milk and milk protein allergic, both the pediatrician and allergist told us NOT to give any products with milk in them. We also have to carry an epi-pen in case he ingests milk by mistake and has a severe reaction.
Before we got the milk allergy diagnosis he was diagnosed as milk protein allergic and needed formula where the proteins were pre-digested.
