Baby Benjamin Joseph 8-4-08
My baby was due on Saturday August 2nd. I had a check up witht he Dr. on Friday, the day before. I was only slightly dialiated, maybe 2 cm. The next day, II saw, what I think back was my mucus plug, an a tint of blood when I went to the bathroom for the next day or so.
On Sunday, 8/3, a day after baby was due to arrive I was sitting in my back yard, we were having a samll bbq. All of a sudden I felt myself getting wet (sorry if TMI). I got up to go to the bathroom and I though, "Oh man, either my water broke or I can't hold the pee in!! lol Ewnt to the bathroon cleaned up a bit and called the Dr. He sent me to the hospital to get tested. By the time I got there, like around 4pm, there really was no doubt my water had broken and the nurses started admitting me.
Mean while i had no contractions. And was only dialated 1-2 cm. At this point we are just waiting to see how I was progressing. I did have to be induced with Pitusin, and I could only assume I got that before the contractions started, but at this point its all a blur. Like around midnight, I could not sand the pain any more and was begging for my epidural. They did not give it to me and offerd me some other injection, which I thought wsa supposed to calm the pain, but only made me really sleepy. Oh, I had to keep going to the bathroom too, and this sleeping med only made it so much harder.
Finally like around 2-3 am I got my epidural. Oh, God bless whoever invented this. It felt like inmediate relief. I went back to sleep and so did my DH.
Flashfwd to 5 am and I am only 5 cm dialed. It took another 4 hrs to go to 9 and start pushing. My favorite OB, Dr. Nodelman, was the one who sent me to the hospital and was there with me all night, but right before we started pushing hi shift was over and another Dr. whom I would have preferred not be there was the one who ended up delivering the baby. She wasn't bad though.
We pushed for 2 hrs and 45 minutes. And at 12:05 pm baby Benjamin Joseph arrived in the world weighin 8lbs 14 oz and 22.5 inches long. Happy B-day!!! 
I got discharged on Wednedsday, but the baby is still in the hospital. Since labor so long before I deliverd, they are treating him with antibiotics just in case he caught an infection.
I felt the nurses at Winthrop, especially the ones in the naternity floor, were very nice anfd helpful.
The baby's care at the NICU for the first 3 days was impeccable I would say, however I feel at the intermediate nursery they could do a little better.
I am now impatiently waiting for my baby to be discharged. Can't wait for Monday!!!
