Baby bird fell out of a tree

DH is home today. He said a baby bird fell out of a tree and hit our window. He is just sitting in our backyard. He isn't hurt- he was able to flutter up to the fence but he can't seem to fly anywhere else. We don't know where his nest is- DH can't see it in the tree. No mommy bird in sight. Should we bring him in the house if he is still there at night? Better to leave him alone? Any suggestions? Poor baby bird! Chat Icon

its better to leave him alone. His mommy will find him or he will try and survive on his own.

I would keep an eye on him but try to leave him for his mom. They usually come back and find a way to help them. But if he is there a day or two, I think I would step in and help.

also- sometimes they are kicked out of the nest by the mom if there is something wrong w/ them or if they are diseased- so just let it be... I know it's sad, but it is natural selection at work....

I heard also sometimes the mother won't touch the baby bird if you touch it, so if you do something contact your local Animal control.

Sweetbriar Sanctuary in Smithtown will take him if he doesn't get help in the next day or so.

If he's able to flutter up to a fence, he'll be fine. Most baby birds leave the nest just before they are able to really fly and are able to hang out in the surrounding trees/bushes. If he's making any sounds, his momma will find him and continue to feed him.
