Baby Drew (Andrew Daniel) is here...I went into labor Thursday night and he was born on Friday morning, 9/8 at 3:25am after three pushes. He weighed 7lbs and was 19 inches which isn't bad for 15 dys early. However, he had trouble getting up some fluid when he came out so after holding him briefly they whisked him away to NICU. He has been on a ventilator and hooked up to IVs and so far it looks like he has pneumonia caused by the quick delivery as he was unable to get the amniotic fluid out of his lungs. My heart is aching as we came home tody without our baby boy and I am worried sick about him. We hope to see some real improvement over the week but any prayers would be appreciated!!! Or if anyone has been through something similar with positive outcome, I'd love to hear about it to lift my spirit a bit. TIA....and congrats to all the new moms this week.
UPDATE: Baby Drew is finally making some progress. They are going to take him off the ventilator this morning so please say a prayer that he tolerates it and continues to improve. We want him to be better soon so he can come home to us!!
UPDATE 2: Drew has been off the ventilator since this morning and went from having oxygen through a CPAP to now just a line in his nose. He has a little bit of pneumonia left but it is so much better and tonight he was awake when we saw him. He is beautiful and looks just like daddy! We think we will get to hold him in the next day or two as long as he keeps this up. Please keep the prayers going - tomorrow is my 3yr anniversary and I can't think of a better gift than my DH and I getting to hold our baby boy.
UPDATE 3: Got a call this morning that Drew started running a fever and had broken out in a rash during the night. They had to do a spinal tap and have ruled out bacterial menengitis but still could be the viral form or any other type of virus. They switched his antibiotics but he's still running a fever and still has the rash. I just don't know how much more of this roller coaster I can handle. Everytime I get my hopes up, we get bad news. I was able to just touch his little body today and he seeme calmed but I am a wreck again. Please please continue to say a prayer for our little boy.
UPDATE 4: Geez, what this poor kid has been through and the ups and downs we've had. The latest good news is that he is breathing all on his own, every test so far has come back negative and they finally started feeding him. I am hesitant to let out a sigh of relief until we have him home but I thank all of you for your kind words, good thoughts and prayers. I continue to pray that he keeps getting better so we can finally have our little family together.
Lots of paryers and hugs! I'm SOOO sorry you have to go through this and baby Drew is home with you soon. I'm sure everything will be fine and your little cutie will be feeling well soon.
