baby laundry...do I need to wash EVERYTHING?
I am starting the baby laundry tonight...I am going through and picking out what to wash.
I am planning on washing a few newborn onesies and clothes that I do not have receipts for so I can't return even if DS dosnt fit in to them.
I am washing pretty much all the 0-3 month onesies and clothes I got. I am assuming he will go through these things pretty quickly.
Bibs....I got SOOO many of these. should I wash them ALL?
socks....washing all the socks from 0-6 months
sheets....should I wash them all? (I have 4 sets as of now)
mattress protector?
breatheable bumpers? Do I wash these too?
boppy and my breast friend cover?
Also....do you think I need to wash the cover to the newborn rocker before DS uses it?
This just seems very excessive to me, although I know the baby's skin is sensitive so I really feel more comfortable washing everything beforehand. Am I missing anything important? Is there anything on this list that I should skip washing before using?
Also....I only have a few white baby clothes, most of them are colored. Do you think I should just mix them together? Should I wash the sheets seperately??
Sorry so many questions...

Re: baby laundry...do I need to wash EVERYTHING?
Im not BTDT so i dont know if they would agree with me but this is what I did.
I did not wash any "outfits" besides take home because I figure he will be basically in onesies and wrapped in a blanket for a while and I dont want to wash stuff he may not fit into
I washed..
about 2 packages of the newborn plain white (hospital type) onesies and tshirt ones
All the 0-3/3mo basic onesies maybe about 20-25
All the 0-3/3mo the pajama type stuff/sleep sacs maybe about 15 i had
A bunch of socks, not all of them
about 8 recieving blankets
All the sheets - crib, bassinett, pack and play and changing pad covers- I have about 3 of each right now (i think these will be changed a lot so i would suggest you wash all of what you have)
All the sheet protectors (they said wash before use - so i did)
Bibs - I did a some - maybe 5 of the smaller looking ones and I did all of the Birp Clothes I had - maybe 25 or so
I did not wash bobby cover or rocking chair cover. I didnt was the bedding yet, even though I just put it on the crib - baby will be in the bassinett for a while then I will was the bedding
I only did 3 loads"- I did one load of whites/very light color I did one load of sheets/blankets I did one load of colored
it really didnt take as long as I tought it would

I remember washing all clothes up to 3 months, sheets, receiving blankets and the boppy cover. I never bothered with the mattress pad or bumpers. HTH

I washed everything except the breathable bumpers with DD. I still wash pretty much everything before putting it on her (she's 9 months old)

I washed most things...you might want to wait on some of the 0-3 stuff to make sure it is the right season for when it will fit him. I'd wash sheets, changing pad/boppy covers, mattress pad, bumpers, etc. I don't think I washed the covers to the bouncy the first time but I did wash the snuzzler.

Re: baby laundry...do I need to wash EVERYTHING?
wow...okay. This helps. It is taking me longer than I thought to figure out what to wash, take the tags off all the clothes, and sort them into color groups. Looks like I might not actually start washing things till tomorrow or friday.
Also after going through things I realized I probably need more burp cloths...I only have a pack of 6 (the cloth diapers). I guess I will buy 2 more packs.
Also, I really dont see myself returning any clothes I got at the shower except maybe a few NB clothes if they dont fit DS. I dont have receipts for most of it, and the ones that I do are the things I like the most, and it's just too much trouble for me to be running around to all different stores to return things. especially once DS is here....so that's why I figured I might as well just wash all the 0-3 month stuff.

6-12 cloth diapers should be all you need. those cute ones do nothing! I don't know why someone doesn't design cute burp cloths out of the cloth diaper material. They could make a fortune on it! I wish I had the time!!!

Re: baby laundry...do I need to wash EVERYTHING?
I washed it all!
Bibs, mittens, burp cloths, socks from 0-6 months. Some of the larger bibs I stored with the larger cloths for later.
I washed all of the sheets, mattress pad covers and ultimate crib sheets as well as the breathable bumper. Also washed blankets and receiving blankets.
I did wash the boppy covers as well as the pack n play sheets. Also washed my nursing cover, sling and newborn infant insert for the Ergo carrier. I figured anything that will come in direct contact with the baby.
I sorted by color.
Enjoy! I really loved washing it all. Makes it feel more real

hmmm...I didnt think about the ergo carrier. We are going to buy it this weekend. Maybe I should wait until we buy it to do some of the wash. I wish I started washing things earlier....now I just feel like I am running out of time b/c I am 37.5 weeks and could literally have this baby any day now. I hope I am just paranoid.

I didn't wash the carrier itself just the newborn insert. I figure by the time he no longer needs the insert is about when I no longer have to be anal about washing things that come in contact with him
You have plenty of time no worries! You can do it in a few big loads. Just do the necessities first like the crib sheets.
Oh I should add I also washed the crib skirt, wash cloths and his bath towels too.

Re: baby laundry...do I need to wash EVERYTHING?
I just did my load of baby laundry and washed the pack and play sheet and changer sheet, a few receiving blankets, her take home outfit and blanky and the boppy cover and changing pad cover are next. I'm not washing any clothes or undershirts until i'm home with her since I never know what size she'll need/whether or not I should even wash some of the long sleeved stuff I bought. I don't want to rip tags off of things and then not be able to return them either for cash or store credit without a receipt.

I did wash everything beforehand, but I washed them together. Honestly though, there were a handful of outfits that were new that I put on them without washing them first.

Re: baby laundry...do I need to wash EVERYTHING?
I had to was everything for DS becasue he has very sensative skin. To this day at 3, if he puts on a shirt that hasn't been washed or uses a different kind of wipe at school, he breaks out in hives.
As a baby, I had to wash everything I wanted to put him in. I had to do massive laundry when we got home from the hospital because he had reflux and was spitting up so much I needed lots of extra clothes, bibs, sheets, changing pad covers, burp clothes, etc. I got and insane amount of bibs and had to use them all with his reflux.

Re: baby laundry...do I need to wash EVERYTHING?
Honestly I didn't wash as much as the norm seems to be. I washed all of their white onesies, all the bibs/burp cloths, wash cloths, receiving blankets and a handful of stretchies. I didn't wash (and still really don"t) most of their daily clothes and they have been fine.

Re: baby laundry...do I need to wash EVERYTHING?
I washed everything 0-3, his swaddle me and his sheets and socks and bibs before DS came home from the hospital. I didnt wash the breathable bumber though.
I didnt wash Newborn stuff bc according to my DR he was going to be about 8 pounds or more which would have been to smal and well he was, he was 23 inches and 8.14. Once you have a better estimate of DC's size then maybe decide on washing the newborn. I ended up giving my newborn stuff to a friend who's son was smaller when born.
Congrats!!!

you could go thru 3 or 4 burp cloths in one day...I would 100% get at least 2 more packages!

Re: baby laundry...do I need to wash EVERYTHING?
Thanks ladies! For some reason it took me almost 3 hours last night to sort through DS's clothes (which I had already done once), take tags off, and sort them into piles to be washed. I plan to do the first load tonight!
