Baby Monitor (not video)
We live in a small house and we just don't see a need for a video monitor since we are all on one floor and the baby's room is right next to ours.
What "regular" monitor should I register for?
Thanks!!

Re: Baby Monitor (not video)
i have heard and seen raves about the Sony one. It's not on bru or bbb - but amazon has it (and has rave reviews there too).
It has something like 30 channels - so no matter how many electrical/wireless things you have in the house - you will be FINE for one of them to work.

Re: Baby Monitor (not video)
this is the one we have... RAVE reviews from friends
Phillips Monitor
It has a new echnology called DECT which prevent the static/ "white noise" sound. Also it prevents you from picking up any other radio signals or baby moniotors in the area which have been a problem in the past with regular baby monitors!

Re: Baby Monitor (not video)
I def recommend the Sony one. They do have it at BRU. Not sure about BBB. One of the best features about it is that it has a noise activated feature so that it will only come on in your room if the baby makes noise. You won't hear other background noise from the room like soft music (that I always had on for DD), the mobile if it is low, a humidifier or white noise machine or a car passing by, etc. You get the point. I love mine and recommend it to everybody asking. I did recently get a video monitor that I use to see DD now that she is 2 and in a toddler bed. But I have the sound turned off and I just use the sound from the Sony one still. Here is a pic of it

Re: Baby Monitor (not video)
We registered for the 2 that Baby Bargains suggested- Sony Babycall and Graco ivibe monitor
We got both but think we will keep the Sony since it was rated just a bit higher
FYI- Baby bargains does not reccomend a video monitor or movement monitor

I have this one and it is pretty good if you just want sound. But if the baby is in another room from you (even if it is the same floor etc) I highly recommend a video monitor which will save you a lot of sleepless nights.
Can I throw something out there just for thought from a BTDT mom.
I ended up getting a video monitor (DD's room is right next to ours and can hear her clearly in the room) and it was the best decision ever. For 2 reasons. The sound monitor is great - if you want to know if your child is crying and you are out of earshot - but - if your child fusses in their sleep you will be going in and out of the room to check on them and if your DC for example wakes easily that might not be an option. If you have a video monitor you can just look at it and see if they are awake and need you vs just fussing in their sleep. You can turn the monitor screen on and off when you hear something and just want to check on them.
Also one night DD got spasmodic croup (severe croup where she couldn't speak or cry) and was making these fussing sounds. Without the video I wouldn't have known that she needed me versus just making her fussing noises b/c she couldn't cry or speak to call us. Without the video monitor I wouldn't have been able to see her.
