Thanks 2peas.
I think we should be able to discuss all types of topics here. It's what makes a forum fun and engaging.
Definitely not trying to start any conflicts or controversial topic. But hey, if you're sensitive to the question, feel free to not even open the thread or answer...
I'm naming my son Alex and lord knows that name is way overused but hell, who cares? It's the only one DH and I both like...
hey we are naming our son alex too Are you calling him alex but naming him Alexander? or just alex
how about a middle name??

We're naming him Alexander Tristan or Dylan. At least that's what I'm trying to sell to DH. He's still skeptical.
This way, he can choose Tristan or Dylan if there are too many Alex in his class. :D

I'm actually disappointed since the names that I've loved forever are sooo popular and the reason why I originally liked them was because they weren't as popular! Ie: Mia, Grace, Jack, etc. I love those names but now I just feel like when our kids get older they will be as common as Jennifer and Michael, KWIM?
I know! But I had my heart set on the name Grace since I was a teenager(its my Grandmother's) so I went with it anyway. Then I realized that we actually know very few where I live. Now we are debating Jack- again to honor my DH's Uncle who basically helped raised him after his father died. Very popular a couple of years ago but kind of died off recently.
BTW- you named both of my children's names, one already and one possibly future and I am not offended Definately agree but am beginning to think its silly not to use them since they are popular. I would rather honor the people we love than worry about that.
Yes ITA, especially if you are naming him/her after a loved one.
ETA: I still love Grace too! I'm trying to convince DH that it's a perfect name lol and my sister's dog's name is Jack so I think that makes it out of the question for us! Too bad because it is such a cute name!

Re: Baby Names You Think May Be Overused?
When DD was born, I thought I was being soo creative with Amelia Grace. Seemed old fashioned to me. Lo wand behold, there were 2 other Amelia Grace's born that week.
But what can you do? Trends will come and go.

I dont think any name is overused if you LOVE it thats all that matters.
This is how I feel, too! I really thought I would want to give my child a very rare name. My son's name is Dylan and it is not very rare but I loved the name too much to worry about where it fell on a list. I am still glad that it is not top 10 but once I knew I wanted that name, it would not have mattered if our entire block was Dylan or if it was #1 on a list. I like it spelled as Dillon also .

Oh great!! This is my top name choice. It is not on the top 10 list so, I figured I was safe. Plus, my sister works in a pre-school/Day Care and she hasn't heard the name Amelia very often. I will probably still use it anyway.

Gavin! I swear I call his name at the park and 3 boys look at me. (he's the boy I watch)
Joshua, very popular, but not in my own personal irish catholic circle well and half puerto rican. Our family thinks we are so original. We just always wanted a josh.

Re: Baby Names You Think May Be Overused?
Well, my DS' name is Christopher and it is probably considered overused, but it was important to my DH to have a III, especially since FIL is deceased.
I agree that this post is not one that will go over too well. I think that a lot of names (like my son's) are "overused" b/c they are nice and classic names. To say they are overused is a bit harsh IMO!

I just wanted to preface by saying that I don't have anything against the names below but just find them used very often lately.
For girl, it has gotta be Madison For boy, it's Aiden, Jayden or Cayden
Anyone else find any other names overused?
I have 3 children, these names are not in ANY of their classes. I think this could be a hurtful post, people put so much thought into their child's name.

Re: Baby Names You Think May Be Overused?
in regards to the original post; i pick what i like; regardless of how popular or unpopular a name may be
i like what i like and dont really let other factors change my mind
what i do NOT like are names that are made up - I rather have / use a "popular" name than one that just sounds made up
