The entire story is just so sad. I hope they catch the ******* who did this. Apparently the owner of the vehicle is being charged with insurance fraud since she gave the driver permission to use the vehicle and he/she was not listed on the insurance.
So if the owner gave the driver permission, then shouldn't it be fairly easy to find the driver? (not directed at you, obviously, just a comment based on the info here)
This is what I was thinking...and on a side note, I had no idea it was illegal to let someone borrow your car who isn't on your insurance policy....

I didn't think it was illegal. I wonder if there is something else going on.
From what I heard earlier, they have the drivers name and photo. So they know who it is, they just need to find him.

Its got to be different with each insurance company then b/c my dad looked into this for himself and as long as the driver was 25 or older it was fine.

I'm thinking the owner had it insured under their name but someone else drove it ALL the time, not like lending it out, but putting under your name because it's cheaper.....

Yup this is what I understood which leads me to believe that the driver was unable to get insurance on their own. Wonder why (sarcastic). It's just so sad and so crazy that someone can actually walk away from an accident like that. People are disgusting
ETA: Daily News just released the name of the driver. Julio Acevedo, 44
exerpt from NYDN:
Acevedo’s weeping mother said she was estranged from her son, who did time in an upstate prison in the 1990s for manslaughter and other crimes.

I hope the parents can be buried with the child. I know they follow the 24 hour burial.

not surprising. people do it all the time. my ex best friend when she first got her car as a teenager was registered and insured under her grandparents policy.
ridiculous the amount of insurance fraud that goes on.
what a tragedy this poor family is going through. so young and now their baby too. I can only hope they are now united in heaven.
