baby orajel - for it or against it?
I'm at a loss. This kid is miserable and I keep hearing mixed things about orajel...any suggestions?

Re: baby orajel - for it or against it?
I'm undecided too. I bought it a few weeks ago to have on hand for the day (that I know will come) he's screaming his head off because of teething. But I asked the ped when it would be okay to use it and they said "never".
I think that when the time comes, I'm just going to have to trust my instincts. I guess what I won't ever do, just to be on the safe side is to put it on him at bedtime.

What is the problem with it? I've used it twice. Now I'm worried.

They say it can numb baby's throat which could cause him to choke while sleeping.
What's the nighttime formula?

Re: baby orajel - for it or against it?
We tried it a few times, but it didn't seem to help. It ok for a few minutes but she'd lick it off her gums and then she was sticking her toungue out and crying, we figured by licking it her tongue got numb.
For us, a cold bottle and cold teethers worked better. And when it's really bad, a dose of Infant Tylenol at night really helps her sleep.

For it...recommended to use no more than 3 times a day for the choking reasons.
It was very helpful for Cassidy, just use it in moderation

Have you tried teething tablets (diluted in a teaspoon of water), they worked a miracle on John (who by the way is cutting his 4th tooth )

My DR told me the same thing...and suggested using tylenol first...and if that dosent work to use the orajel....
I hate giving tylenol too...so I usually dont use anything...
But I did give the orajel once, and Ryan scremed.... ( I guess he didnt like the feeling) I just kept him sitting up, and had a close eye on him...
So overall....i try to push it so I dont have to use either (just cool teething rings) then I go to tylenol...and if I still was unsuccessful I guess If give the orajel...but we havent gotten at that point yet

We tried it, but it didn't do anything. I tried it on my gums to see what it feels like - it numbs for all of 5 minutes and then goes away so I don't really see the point anyway...

I used it a few times when she was really in pain. Honestly I think it was just a distraction since it numbed her lips and tongue as well. I found tylenol helped much better.

I'd also recommend infant motrin over tylenol...depending on your babies age. Worked much better and lasted longer than tylenol.
You can also alternate tylenol and motrin..

I have used it during the day and at nite I would give motrin and put very very little on the gums

Re: baby orajel - for it or against it?
I am for it. Kaylee is 4 1/2 months old and cutting 4 teeth. Without baby orajel i would be a mess. She is so in pain and upset all the time. She doesn't sleep unless she has the orajel on her gums. I have tried a bunch of holistic gum treatments and none of them gave her any relief. Orajel is the only thing that has been working.

Against it. I give Jake a little bit of tylenol and it seems to work for us.

We tried it a few times and it didn't seem to help. Now we use Hylands teething tablets and work really well.

Re: baby orajel - for it or against it?
Im against it...our ped said the same thing about it numbing the throat and that it only lasts for a few minutes. You are probably better off with tylenol or motrin. We use motric for teething since it lasts through the night but I would check w/ your ped.
