baby orajel
Hi ladies,
about two weeks ago I thought the baby was teething and Icalled the doc to ask if I could use orajel. He was about 15 1/2 weeks he said no to bring him in. It turned out that it was AR and not his teeth. Now two weeks later he is def teething. Chomping on everything, I used a cold wash cloth and he liked it. He had a hard time falling asleep so I want to go and get orajel. I forgot to ask the doc why he did not want me using it. Did anyone else's ped reccomend against it?
I also saw on babycenter that it could numb the throat and the baby's gag reflex which could lead to choking. Anyone ever heard this or had a prob with it? TIA
..i feel so bad for him he was falling asleep with the wash cloth in his mouth.

Re: baby orajel
yes, ive heard of the choking issue. Dont feed right after you put it on him and only use a little bit.
I only used it on Emma when she REALLY needed it. I gave both kids Tylenol for teething instead of Orajel.

Re: baby orajel
I asked my DR about this the other day..and he just said to give it to him, if really necessary....

If you use too much can numb their gag reflexes. I always give it to her at least an hour before bed just to make sure she is okay, if I am going to use it at all.

Re: baby orajel
My pediatrician was fine with using orajel but did mention it may number the gag reflex.
While it was fine for my kids, nither of them had acid reflux - so numbing the gag reflex may be worse for son. I would call the pediatrian about it.

Re: baby orajel
Me pedi doesn't like it. They feel it doesn't help much & the babies don't really like the taste. We got the ok to use Tylenol if she is REALLY bothered by the pain. We only used it once for teething and I have to say it worked like a miracle.

Re: baby orajel
I agree w/ the others. We don't use topical stuff like Oragel either. My 4 1/2 month old is teething like mad and today is the first day I had to give him infant Tylenol. Poor baby is in so much pain.
