Baby pimples...
On Friday Emily started breaking out with pimples on her forhead, bridge of her nose, around her eyes, chin and ears. I figured she was just getting some baby acne and I know that's normal. I have been washing her face one a day with the johnson's baby shampoo because I know there have been posts about it being a "miracle cure" but it just seems to be getting worse. When she cries it gets all red and her face looks horribly blotchy. This morning it looked really bad, so I was thinking maybe it's some kind of an allergic reaction, and I called the pediatritian. The on call doctor siad it sounds like it's more something bothering me cosmetically then bothering her becuases he's eating, isn't running a fever, and doesn't seem itchy. He asked me what kinds of soaps, lotions and formulas she's getting and I told him and he said it sounds like we're doing everything right.
I just feel so bad for her, it looks SO bad. Is there something else I can do for her? Here is a pic of her from yesterday that shows how bad it's looking:

That really looks like an allergic reaction to something and not baby acne. Is there anything else you put on the face besides the shampoo - like soap or something? Do you wash their face with some type of wipes.
Is it all over the body too?
If not then it might be something she is eating.

Re: Baby pimples...
That's what I think -- that it's an allergic reaction and not pimples. Of course without the doctor seeing it he couldn't say it over the phone.
The only things we've put on her face are the johnson's baby shampoo and avenno head and body baby oatmeal wash -- the fragrance free one.
She has been getting a LOT more formula then usual -- enfamil with lipil -- i was pumping a lot but i'm not getting as much now so she's getting more formula -- i wonder if that's the reason.
I am probably going to call the ped. tomorrow and see if I can bring her in in the AM.
The rash is only on her face -- although she does also have a rash on her bottom that is being treated with nystatin that the doc prescribed when she was there for her checkup on thursday.

I can't see it very well but Miranda has hers all in the same places and it does look awful when she cries. Hers is clearly baby acne though. The shampoo helps but hasnt been a miracle cure for us.

Monkeybride -- how long has Miranda had it for and has anythng helped? With Emily it's like some big ones randomly placed and then smaller white-head types of ones in clusters -- does this sound like what Miranda has?
I know it's mostly probably just appearance but it bothers me so much! 3 days ago her skin was flawless!!

Its so gross looking I know She hasn't had any big ones just big patches of whiteheads all over her cheeks. She started with her forhead and eyelids. Those have cleared up just using the shampoo but it took a while. Now its all over her cheeks and chin and its being really stubborn. When she cries she looks like she has a skin disease on her face. Its awful but it doesn't seem to bother her at all so I am not too worried yet. Someone told me babies who breastfeed get it worse because of the hormones? I don't know how true that is or not.

I tihnk I'm calling the pediatritian tomorrow and bringing Emily in. It just doesn't look like acne to me.

Re: Baby pimples...
I am going to say that it is probably baby acne and not an allergic reaction.. but you should still definitely check with your ped. Here are some picts of Logan when he was a newborn and first got baby acne. I freaked out but the doctor said not to worry... that it was very common. Unfortunately, Logan is now 6 months and still has the baby acne. Not as bad as these picts, but bad enough for people to make stupid comments. I've made an appointment to see a dermatologist on tuesday. I will let you know if they suggest anything different than just the baby shampoo.
ETA - I have tried a ton of things to cure it.. including a prescription from the ped. but the baby shampoo is the only thing that seems to help. Image Attachment(s):
