Re: baby powder ?
Yes it is harmful, esp. to girls. They said its okay if you put on their tummys/backs but not in their diaper area & they shouldn't breathe it in.

Re: baby powder ?
You shouldn't use baby powder but johnson and johnson makes a cornstarch powder that is okay - baby powder can get into the lungs.

Re: baby powder ?
i believe it's been shown to be potentially harmful to girls. not sure about boys.
i personally don't use anything but baby wipes down there, and after most poops i will also wash him with a warm washcloth/mild soap and dry him well. haven't had any rashes so far (knock on wood!)

Re: baby powder ?
i use it on DS on his body like his armpits and under his chin where things get red sometimes. I try and be very careful of him breathing it in. I only use a little but none on the diaper area.

Re: baby powder ?
I don't use it. I think I've used the corn starch a couple of times, but don't really bother with it.

Re: baby powder ?
I'll admit, I use it. I use the J&J lavender one, which is made from cornstarch. I started using it about a year ago. DD had the WORST diaper rash -- I brought her to the ped (after trying everything on the market OTC) and they prescribed a cream for her and that didn't help either. So I just thought, "okay lets go back to basics -- what did our mothers do?" So I tried the powder and she cleared up almost magically. Now I use it if I see she is getting a little red, but not all the time. I'd say in the year I've been using it I haven't even gone through 1 bottle.

Re: baby powder ?
I use it under DD's neck b/c it's hard to keep dry and she gets little rashes. I only use the cornstarch one though, and I put a tiny bit on my hand no where near her face.
I've been advises TO use cornstarch powder on the neck/collar area during warm weather to avoid heat rash. You just don't spray it onto your baby, but into your hand away from their face.
We all had baby powder used on us, and we don't have baby powder disease
