Baby Shower Blues

Hello All,
This is my first post on this site. I was active on LI weddings. So I’m 32 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I couldn’t be more excited. But it seems that my husband and I are the only ones excited. It seems like everyday someone has asked me when your baby shower is. To my knowledge there is nothing planned. My best friend who is like a brother to me offered to plan one with his wife. When I told my husband, he felt my friend was out of line and it should be planned by the family. I asked my sister and she said that she is planning her sister in law’s baby shower and she doesn’t have the time or the money. I told her money is not an issue. That my husband will pay for everything I guess I’m a little upset because I’ve planned multiple baby shower for friends and family. I feel some kind of way because now it’s my turn no one feels the same way. I’m doubting that is will happen and is just willing to just get what I need for my baby on my own. I started buying things for the baby on my own but I hear from everyone oh wait until your shower. Knowing that the baby is full term at 37 weeks, I feel I have 5 weeks to get what I need to start. So what would you do? Should I continue to buy what I need or hold out a few more weeks?

Are you sure they aren't planning a surprise shower? Are you registered? are items being purchased from the registry? If not then I would go out and get my own baby stuff. I'm sorry you are upset. I would be too. Congratulations though! Chat Icon

Sorry your feeling down. If you were planning to pay for the shower I'd personally just put the money towards the baby items that way at least your guaranteed to get what you need. If you want a celebration you could always host a more low key baby sprinkle or Diaper/Book shower. Maybe your friends just assume someone else is hosting and that's why they haven't stepped up....???

Thank you ladies. I am registered. Only one item is purchased but I think it was by a friend who wasn't on my list.... I guess you gals are right I'll start buying my baby's stuff... So much for feeling special and excited for having a baby.

I don't understand why your husband doesn't feel like a friend should throw it. You should have taken your friend up on it. Its not done much anymore, but etiquette wise your parents are not supposed to throw it for you. It is traditional that a friend hosts.

My best friend's two co-workers threw her a baby shower. They wanted to give it to her as their gift since her mom lives four hours away. I think you should take your friend up on throwing one.

This exactly. My parents funded my shower but my friend hosted it. Maybe they are throwing a surprise shower .

I agree...

I think they're either planning a surprise shower and if not, then your husband should either let your friend throw it or he should throw you one himself!

Honestly, I'd plan it myself if no one was throwing it.
You could plan it quickly & invite who you want.

Do whatever makes you the happiest... If you want your friend to host, then take him up on the offer. If you would like a gathering, then let your husband know how important it is to you and have him fund it- even if you have to help with the planning. This is an exciting time and you should have a celebration of some type if you would like one.

Honestly, with my first my mother was making headache that I just said I will skip a shower. My mil proceeded with sprinkle of 6, because you have to have one for presents.... it was nice but honestly disappointing ( I knowit sounds unungrateful). It was at a home. The smoke alarm went off from lunch, there was brownies in a pan when I wanted a cake.

With my second kid my office had a shower, I cried when i walked in and saw so many people there for me. We had pizza, and people baked cakes and cupcake.

If you want a shower tell your dh its important to you and to coordinate with your friend, your sister.

I would talk to your DH- if your friend offered to throw it, I would take him up on that.

Why doesn't your husband plan it with your friend? I don't see anything wrong with that. And he'll make sure you get the kind of shower you were hoping for.

This!
Is it possible that this is what might be happening?
Maybe mention to your hubby that you'd like to start purchasing the things you need for the baby and see how he reacts/what he says.

triple agree.

You have a friend who wants to plan, Why is that out of line? because he feels the sister MUST, or the mother MUST?

HAVE YOUR FRIEND PLAN YOU A SHOWER!!!!!
