Re: Baby shower ideas for someone who is adopting ?
DH does not believe in coed showers. He firmly believes showers are a women only event. There is no way that he wanted to participate or force other men to participate in a shower no matter how much of a regular party it looked like. Unlless you know your BIL will not object you may want to check before going forward with a coed plan.
My family gave us a traditional ladies only baby shower. There was no way my Mom and Aunts were going to miss a chance to have a Baby Shower they love that stuff. I loved it too.
My friends gave us a Girls only "Girls night Out" theme shower. It was great! We stayed in had a nice dinner and drank wine .
I am sure your sister will love what ever you plan.

Re: Baby shower ideas for someone who is adopting ?
They have cute shower invitations and goodie bags on www.mandysmoon.com. My sister bought a lot of stuff from there. My sister threw me a coed shower. The mean pretty much stuck together and wanted nothing to do with the "showery" things but it was my request to have a Jack and Jill. One thing that was REALLY fun that the guys and girls took part in was a personalized Jeopardy game Men v Women on how much they knew about me, my husband, our baby, and the adoption process. It's hard to explain but it was fun. Only you know what she would like best though. Not us! Have fun!

I did a shower for my close friend who adopted from China..it was themed "Think Pink" and it was so much fun.I had pink flowers for each table, pink table clothes, pink everything... Girls-only until the very end then I let the guys come and eat I did it 2 months before they left for China.

One of my friends adopted and her shower was about 2 weeks after she came home with the baby. It was a traditional girls only shower except that the baby was there too.

Re: Baby shower ideas for someone who is adopting ?
My shower was a little Asian inspired and BEUTIFUL. Beautiful Asain umbrella's hung from the tent (It was outdoors in a big white tent. The flowers were beautiful orchids in "take out containers" with chop sticks stuck in them. We had pictures of the baby at each table I am so happy it was BEFORE the baby came home, because you need so much. However you never know how well the child will be settling in. The parents AND child may not be up for large crowds for some time, so I def vote for at least hving it about two months before they are expecting travel.

Re: Baby shower ideas for someone who is adopting ?
I had an adoption shower after my niece was adopted. My BIL stayed home with her, so my sister had a day out. The cake said: " Diapers and Pins a new life begins". There were baby booties on it. The invitations said: Tiny fingers, tiny toes, little itty bitty clothes, dresses, dolls ribbons and curls, Guess what it is a girl! Please join us for a baby shower... the rest I did like a regular baby shower. HTH Any other questions feel free to FM mail me.
