Baby Shower-surprise or not?

Do you know when your shower is? Or do you prefer to be surprised?

I don't really have parents to throw me a shower, so I know Dh is going to step up and do this for me. He asked me today if I want to be surprised...I have no idea!

Re: Baby Shower-surprise or not?

I dont think it matters. My family will try to surprise me, but I imagine I will be able to guess when it is based on the registry and when items start being purchased...that is, if I peek!

Re: Baby Shower-surprise or not?

Mine was supposed to be a surprise since my bridal shower was ruined by one of my bridesmaids who couldn't keep her mouth shut. But like every other even that include my IL's the shower surprise had to be also ruined b.c of all of the drama associated with it.

I think surprises are a nice idea -my only concern was dressing nicely -but you can ask your DH to have your "shower outfit" brought to you so you can change if you do show up in something you don't want

Re: Baby Shower-surprise or not?

I hate surprises....my mom is throwing it & I've basically planned it w/ her. I know where & when & who is going...I'd prefer it this way.

Re: Baby Shower-surprise or not?

mine is not a surprise - I just prefer to know when it is and help out if I can. I also like to be there greeting people. I knew about my bridal shower and bought the favors cause I really wanted to do something.

Re: Baby Shower-surprise or not?

I know where and the month - DH refuses to let me know the date. He wants something to be a surprise for me. If it means this much to him, I'll let him try to surprise me with the date

Re: Baby Shower-surprise or not?

I already told my mom I didn't want it to be a surprise. I want to help!! She had no problem with it and said it would be something to keep me busy over the summer since I'll probably be spending a lot of time indoors.

Re: Baby Shower-surprise or not?

Thanks ladies. I think this would be easier for Dh if I knew about it too! He is sweet for throwing me one...I don't want to stress him out by having to surprise me too!
Luckily, he won't be alone. I know my bf shellibean will be assisting him in throwing this shower too.

Re: Baby Shower-surprise or not?

I personally despise surprise parties, so NO mine was not a surprise. I knew the date, who was coming and where it was, but I had no clue about the details like games, food, or what my SIL had planned for me.

It was going to be a surprise for me - I wanted it that way - and it pretty much was - I accidentally found out 2 wks before the date, so some people knew that I knew - go for a surprise! It takes the stress off of you!!!

I had to know because so many folks are coming in from out of town. I don't mind it not being a surprise at all.

Re: Baby Shower-surprise or not?

Yeah. I hate surprises, so my family thinks that it is a FANTASTIC idea to have surprise events for meChat Icon

Anyway, my mom and sister told me the date, and have slowly been leaking me info since then. They didn't put "Surprise" on the invites, so my friends started telling me stuff (my sister got annoyed, btu what do you want?) and I think in some regards they wanted me to find out so I didn't flip out about the date (37.5 weeks) and location (2 hours from my house)

But I don't think that there is anything wrong with even helping to plan your own baby shower

Re: Baby Shower-surprise or not?

Mine was supposed to be a surprise, but like my bridal shower, it was impossible!
My aunt threw my shower since my poor mom threw my bridal shower only a few months prior. She wanted it to be a surprise, and I felt so bad, I told her I knew about it a few days before b/c I didnt think I could walk in an act surprised, I was too tired to put on the anymore.
