Baby sign language?

I was looking into baby sign language.

Did anyone look into it or is doing it with their DC?

I think it would be so interesting.

ETA: where did you learn it?

I didn't do it but know several moms that did & were very successful with it. Absolutely wonderful to be able to communicate with your baby at an early age.

Re: Baby sign language?

I haven't *really* gotten into it but I did get DD the Baby Einstein:My First Signs DVD. It's quite good as a starting point.

There is no need to take a class. You can learn everything you need to know from the "Sign with Your Baby Complete Learning Kit " by Joseph Garcia.

Once your child is ready to start, if you are comfortable with television, the Signing Time DVDs are really helpful and fun to watch.

Sign language saved my sanity for the months before my daughter was ready to talk!

Are those both actually ASL or just "baby signs" made up?

Re: Baby sign language?

As far as I am aware signing time dvds are actually ASL.

Both are ASL which is great so that babysitters and teachers can recognize the signs.

Re: Baby sign language?

We are doing it with DD. I just bought a book with some beginner ASL signs. And she now does a handful of them mostly related to eating or drinking.

I got the DVD but got lazy and never did it. We were fortunate that DD spoke early so we never had trouble communicating with her and generally knowing what she wanted.
