Baby/Toddler on a boat?
Does anyone here have a boat? DD is 14 months-our friends have a life jacket for her and we would not be going out to the ocean, just the south bay. I know it is probably ok, I am just nervous!
Does anyone here take their little ones out on a boat regularly?

Yes we go out all of the time.
My DD was not even 5 weeks old on her first trip

My parents have a boat. DS was on it last summer - b/f he was 1. Its a huge boat though - not sure if i would have taken him on a sail boat at that age.

We take DS out on my parents boat all the time. He is 21 months now, but we did last year as well and he was 8-11 months old during boating season. Hes not the happiest camper in the life jacket, but he gets over it. He loves to "drive" the boat.

The boat is 24 ft I think, I do not know if that is considered big or not.
I am just being paranoid. I just have this fear she will somehow break free and hurl herself over the side

Our old boat is a 24' - our DD was out on it every weekend or more My advice is to maybe see if you can get your hands on the life jacket and put it on your DS a couple of times before you go on. I know the age they won't understand that they have to wear it, but it might help.

DS is 15 months and DH is dying to take him out. But it's a small fishing boat - no cabin, nothing. I veto it for the time being.

Re: Baby/Toddler on a boat?
DS is 14 months and we took him out a few times about a month ago (I think that's the last time it was sunny!!).
We have a smaller Wellcraft and I have to say one day the water was really choppy and I was nervous. But the other 2 days were fine.
If you have a bigger boat with a cabin, DD should be perfectly fine.

Re: Baby/Toddler on a boat?
I grew up in Miami so I spent my life on boats and when on them since I was a baby. DD has been going on our boat here on LI since she was about 14 months and has always been fine. We even did an overnight trip where we stayed on the cabin.

My parents have a boat and I'm sure we will go out with DS this summer. They have a life vest for him that he will wear while we are moving.
