Baby visitor rules -share experiences or plans

My mother in law gave me a problem about washing her hands every single time. She would argue with me that they weren't dirty, that she just washed them before (and I watched her sneeze into them), and that he was gonna get germs anyway so why did it matter? She also told me she couldn't believe something so small came out of me two days after I gave birth. Things are better now but it was a rough couple of months.

I had no rules and would probably have no rules again if I had another DC. Our family was waiting in the waiting area and came in about an hour after DS was born, which gave DH and I time alone with our DS, which was nice. Our families were all gone by the next day (we do not live near them). My mom came up at 2 weeks pp and helped out. My mil came up at 3 weeks pp and helped. My sister came with her infant at 5 weeks pp.

My DH's grandmother gave us a hard time about hand washing too. When she would refuse I would just smile and say, ok you don't get to hold him then. She would give in at that point.
