Baby's Hospital Bag
What are you planning on bringing to the hospital for the baby?
The only things I have packed are his coming home outfit, a few hats, some socks, and a blanket. Am I missing anything?

Re: Baby's Hospital Bag

Re: Baby's Hospital Bag
Yay - I can finally answer:
Coming Home Outfit Outfit for picture (if I decide to use it) Receiving Blanket Hat Socks Diapers (just in case - 2) Vaseline (small) Baby Wipes (small pack - for clean up in car) Emery board (for nails)
I know we get things from the hospital but I thought it would be better to overpack since I seem to enjoy doing that. Why stop now, right?

OK good, that's what I thought. It just seems like I am not packing anything for him - when the dog's bag is packed to the rim.

WOW - you are really organized. I'll throw a thing of wipes in there also just in case.

Re: Baby's Hospital Bag
I only packed the outfit for the baby, socks, blanket etc. They had tons of diapers that I took from the hospital, gauze for circumcision, and vaseline.
They don't use wipes at Winthrop but these dry wipes like soft paper towels. For my next baby I am bringing Pampers Sensitive wipes. That is the only thing I would bring and maybe Aquaphor.
You take so much stuff from them I am glad I didn't take too much stuff from home because I needed the room in the diaper bag!

Re: Baby's Hospital Bag
all i packed and will pack is
an outfit receiving blanket baby book.
all the other stuff is very useless because the hospital gives you everything and encourages you to take everything.
like posted, sensitive wipes if you want, but they don't even recommend using wipes right away on the baby.

Re: Baby's Hospital Bag
Also: If you can remember the baby book while you are in labor or delivery they will put the baby's foot prints in the book for you.

Re: Baby's Hospital Bag
Just to clarify: you all just packed this stuff in your hospital bag right? You didn't pack a diaper bag with this stuff in it? I didn't think I needed to prepare a diaper bag b/c we'll be going right home after the hospital, but I wanted to make sure. Thanks

You REALLY don't need all of this stuff. They give you a bunch of stuff and unless your car ride is really far home you don't really need to pack for it. DS slept the whole way. It took me a week to use all of the diapers that the hospital gave me and I will have A&D samples for the rest of my life.
The only reason I would say NOT to overpack is because you have to lug all of that stuff, plus all of your stuff, plus the stuff the hospital gives you AND the baby in the car seat out the door.
We put DS in his coming home outfit two seconds before we left and that is ALL we brought for him.

I packed a seperate small bag for His stuff so that DH could bring it up to me on the day we leave instead of it taking up room in my bag.

I know - but that's why I admit to being an overpacker. I put these things in a free diaper bag that I received and DH will bring it on the day of discharge. The bag - full - weighs nothing and gives me the peice of mind that I know where everything is. I can imagine tossing things in that the hospital gives us where ever there is space and then getting frustrated when I can't find it. Just me but to know me is to know my type A personality.
I agree - no need for everything but this was my list. I really appreciate the advice though - hope this comes across because other people need to decide what is best and your advice is great.

Re: Baby's Hospital Bag
I just came home Thursday from having the baby and I didnt pack anything for him except clothes - and I put them in my bag. The hospital gave us an Enfamil Diaper bag that had some formula in it and told us to wipe out all the supplies on the baby cart. We got a full pack of diapers, wipes, vaseline, ointment, a lil wash basin, some grooming stuff... I tend to overpack too and this time I listened to others that have BTDT and they were right. If you only feel comfortable packing the baby a seperate bag, by all means do it. It isnt necessary but if you feel better by doing it, there is no harm!
