Babysitting Hiring Questions

Hi,

I am going through care.com to find a babysitter for the summer so I can run errands and for some date nights. This is the first time I am even considering a babysitter that is not related to us!

I have a few candidates that seem great.

Questions I have:

What are some good questions to ask potential babysitters?

Did you have them come and play with your child on the same day you interview them or do you do the interview and then arrange a trial run??

What's the going rate for babysitters? I have a two year old DD that would require diaper changes.

Have you had success with care.com? I got one person who wrote me that said she left her job because she can't work with that many kids!! Uhhhh...??? Obviously, that person is a NO. Am I opening the door for crazy people to come into my house??

I haven't used care.com but I myself was a babysitter for several years and worked at a daycare center.

I think you should ask how long they have been working with kids, what ages, how many at one time. What they would do in an emergency.

I would definitely have the kids there so they can meet them. usually children are much better judges of character than adults!
