More Daycare Questions - Actually home care questions..(long).
Those of you who responded to my questions about interviewing daycares - thank you so much!!! I am notebooking that thread for future reference!!
I don't want to count my chickies before they hatch, but it looks like we have (fingers crossed) found someone to take care of Jordan in their home for the time being. She comes REALLY highly recommended from someone I know down here in FL who used to use her FT for both her sons and now will use her for afterschool for her younger son. She lives less than 10 minutes away - actually around the block pretty much from where we used to live - lol - and is on the way to work.
My question is that IDK how much is a "fair price." We've had two good phone conversations and went over a lot of things. Again, she comes very highly recommended from someone I trust.
The situation -
She has a one year old son so Jordan will be with her and her son. She will also be watching two other boys after school - so from 2:30 or so but I will be there to get Jordan around 2:45/3:00 so that's not a big deal. This is NOT a FT gig. DH is a firefighter and works a rotating schedule. Most of the time it would be two to three days a week (he supplements with second job at hospital.) Every third week it could be no days because he has "off" from fire dept but he'd prob have a day or two at hospital those weeks. He also gets called from the hospital sometimes last minute (morning of) for overtime. She doesn't have a problem with him calling her last minute and saying - hey - are you available today... So again - not fulltime - Jordan would prob be dropped between 6:45-7:15 depending if it was DH or me who was dropping him - some days later if he was at hospital - figure 9:00 - as I said - I'd be there to pick him up 3 pm, average.
Please keep in mind that this is South Florida, NOT NY. For comparison's sake regarding salaries - I make (gulp) around 25k LESS down here at my job than I would in NY - oy - did I really just WRITE that???? She is not a licensed daycare, just a mom doing this in her home but she used to work at daycare which is how my friend first met her.
Any ideas, ranges, any ANYTHING would be great!!!!
My friend told me what she used to pay for FT daycare for BOTH boys a few years ago and it was MORE than reasonable, but again, that was FT.
Thanks so so much and sorry so long!!!

My DS goes to a woman's home during the week too. She is licensed and runs a daycare out of her home, so its a little different I guess, but just to give you an idea, we pay $7/hr. She supplies all food, wipes, and toys. We supply her with diapers and formula. The full time rate is different but on a part time basis its $7 and hour.
HTH!

I can't help on numbers - we're in the city so our numbers are even higher than LI, but what do local daycares charge for full-time and part-time? Those numbers might give you a good reference point. I'd probably start with the average and discount a bit from there.

There is a range but the daycare closest to us charges a lot (I think, for Florida.) We live in an expensive neighborhood so I guess it's due to the clientele. They charge $900 a month for infants, full time. No one really has PT for infants. I don't know what other daycares charge, I can ask some friends at work.

So, those of you who answered - it's a straight hourly wage? Not something based on a day or a week?

When Emma goes P/T we pay by the hour- I think $6.50? When she is full time it's a flat $250. Even when she is P/T it works out to $50 a day.

For us, its just an hourly wage. However, if he was going full time, its would be a flat rate of $250 for the whole week. For part time its the hourly rate - doesnt matter which days or anything. It still comes out to about $65 a day when I'm working but she's one of the most reasonably priced that I've seen.
