back from a week's vacation in florida- photos & travel tips
Hi everyone.. Me, Maddie and DH have been in Florida for the past week. We stayed in a condo at Bellaire Beach by Clearwater on the West Coast of florida.
We had a great week of swimming in the pool and in the gulf- and we relaxed (well, as much as we could with a 9 month old) and just kicked back.
Maddie had a great time & loved being in the water... she's a little water bug.
I know a bunch of you were getting ready to take vacation and I wanted to give you all some advice that I thought helped us... some of it echoes what was said before.
1) if you can, buy DC a ticket... I'm SO happy that DD didn't have to sit in our laps- she fell asleep each way for about 1 1/2 hours (my guess is all the white noise on the plane)- it made it way easy on us that she was in her car seat. 2) this is HUGE- the gogokidz is AWESOME - it's basically a set of wheels that screws onto the carseat (not the infant seat- but the larger seats). This worked out well for us for a few reasons- we didn't have to use the stroller and we could check it at the curb. Since we had to bring the carseat with us anyway (we rented a car) - we had ours- which I prefer- and DD had it to sit w/ in on the plane. 3) I was nervous about checking the umbrella stroller and it getting distroyed- so I packed it in DH's golf travel bag- it worked out perfectly- and I was able to pack our beach towels in it as well. 4) on the flight down we were in the 2nd row- but on the way back we were in the 1st row in the bulkhead- believe it or not, the 2nd row was better b/c we were able to put all the arm rests up- the 1st rows in the bulkhead have arm rests with the trays in them- so you can't put them up.. it was still comfortable, but not as comfortable w/ them all up. 5) baby food, formula, bottles etc- i brought a bunch of empty bottles along w/ the container with the 4 pre-measured powdered formula sections. I also brought extra baby food- DD ate way more than I thought she was- she seemed more hungry when she was traveling. 6) instead of using the regular diaper bag, we used DH's backpack- inside i had the skip hop pronto changer- which made it VERY easy to just grab and change DD in the very tight airplane bathrooms.
that's all I can think of right now.. it was a little stressful going away w/ teh baby- but it was a lot of fun, and very relaxing- here's a few photos.
OH- we didn't want to leave DD alone in our room while we were sitting outside- so she napped in our suitcase filled w/ pillows.. we thought it was pretty funny...

we used the beach blanket sun screen that you buy at BBB- it's SPF50 and water resistant w/ a broad spectrum of UVA/UVB protection.. I also had a small tube (sample) of water babies by coppertone- they both worked well.. i applied every hour or so and DD didn't get burned at all.. but she did pick up a tan (which is scary considering I was using SPF 50)

It looks like a fun trip. Thanks for the advice. We're leaving tomorrow. I want to get that gogokidz thing for our next trip. I'm pushing it and still using the infant seat/snap & go.
