Background check question
Does anyone know how long something stays on your record? (Ex legal trouble, arrests, etc)?

Re: Background check question
Even if it qualifies to be removed, many times it is not, and you have to file a petition to expunge, have the petition granted and send a copy of the order to the relevant authorities demanding that they remove the event from their records. It's probably worth it to hire an attorney for something like that...

Re: Background check question
I think it depends...was it a felony, misdemeanor or a violation.

Re: Background check question
A felony is there forever. I think a misdemeanor is 15 years.

Re: Background check question
Most employment background checks I've encountered (state & federal) go back 7 years.
I'm in the process of getting Fedral Top Secret security clearance which asked for 20 years.

Ditto.
It may stay on your record forever, but companies have to pay significantly more to get longer periods of time reported, so generally most only look back 7 years.
It's expensive to look back more than that, so it may be there, but we probably won't find it if it was longer than 7 years.
Except in very high profile positions, where we shell out the bucks to get the longer time frames.

Re: Background check question
Any kind of background check for govt agencies go back to age in most cases. Drug tests depends on the agency. I know FBI goes back 7 years for drugs during the poly.
