Backyard Play Areas

We just had a lot of ivy removed from the back part of our yard. We plan on putting sod, but we want to section off a part of it for a play area - for the swingset we will be getting next year, the playhouse and various other toys.
We need suggestions or pros and cons of different choices. DH wants to use pea gravel, I foresee kids throwing and eating rocks, but my suggestion, rubber mulch, is $$.

What do you have/suggest?

Any pics would be great!!

TIA!

Re: Backyard Play Areas

We have been to houses that have had both. Jack is obsessed with rocks - so the only thing he does with them is put them on the grass. None of the other kids were even near it. Chat Icon

The only thing with grass is a few people have said mowing the lawn around the toys is annoying.

My DS is obsessed with rocks and sticks and mulch too. So we just put our swingset on grass.

We have rubber mulch and it was $$$$$
The reason we invested though was because I have an in-home daycare, we also went a bit thicker because of that...

Kids pick up the mulch also and throw it Chat Icon
