Re: Bacon, Hot Dogs, and bologna
I miss hot dogs too. But I eat bacon almost every day. I am making a list of all the things I want after the baby is born. It's going to be scary!

Re: Bacon, Hot Dogs, and bologna
I've had bologna twice...I would like to eat it everyday with hot dogs.
That's what I want after I have him...a bologna sandwich with a hot dog on the side lol

Re: Bacon, Hot Dogs, and bologna
I never heard of bacon being an issue.... I have it all the time.
I also eat hot dogs 2-3 times a month. I do eat cold cuts a few times a week, but not bologna bc I don't like it.

Re: Bacon, Hot Dogs, and bologna
I never heard of the bacon issue - as long as it's cooked well - I can't see an issue?
I had pigs in the blanket at a party - I just couldn't help myself - but I'm not a huge hotdog fan to begin with.
I haven't touched bologna since I was a kid, but I think out of the three - it's the one you should stay away from the most.

I can't even remember the last time I ate a hot dog, but was eyeing the one DH was eating this past weekend. I think this might be my first craving

I thought we could eat bacon...my doctor never said it was a no-no...especially since I cook it. Off to do some research.

Re: Bacon, Hot Dogs, and bologna
I didn't think bacon was an issue either since it's cooked. I had a handful of pigs in a blanket a week ago. I've also had cold cuts but only once or twice a week. It's fine as long as you have it in moderation and it comes from a place that keeps its cold cuts moving and well stored.

Re: Bacon, Hot Dogs, and bologna
Anything that has a lot of nitrates, nitrites, etc. should be kept to a minimum during pregnancy. I've had hot dogs though and I think bacon once or twice. You can find places that do sell these meats without the nitrates, etc. I've found them at Trader Joe's, Fairway, and Whole Foods. I'm not sure what it is about the nitrates/nitrites that is not good, other than the fact that they're probably not the best thing for you preggo or not, but I do remember reading it in the "What to Expect" book and online somewhere. I'm sure in moderation it's okay, but every doctor has their own opinion on these things.

Re: Bacon, Hot Dogs, and bologna
Bacon I never heard of being a problem its the hot dogs and cold cuts that may contain listeria that can be very harmful to the baby if the dogs and cold cuts are infected with them. eat in Moderation and enjoy. the hot dogs cook them a little longer the cold cuts heat them up! and make sure the deli has a good reputation, dont eat from a deli that looks dirty or it not frequenced daily.
