Bailey had a seizure this morning
It was VERY scary. It woke DH up even though he thought he was just "dreaming" and "running" in his sleep. Instead he was convulsing, drolling/foaming, urinated and eventually pooped. It lasted about fiv minutes.
It was another 5-10 minutes before he was alert and when he finally got to his feet, he paced for an hour and didn't seem to know us and actually cowered from DH.
He eventually laid down and just looked exhausted. He sorta napped for about 15 minutes, got up took a MAJOR pee in the living room and now he's restless again.
We called the emergency place in Plainview and they said we could bring him in (at 5AM) and warned it would be very $$$ or it would be okay to wait out until our regular vet opened ... so that's what we are now waiting for ...
So Bailey could use some doggie hugs!
It was so awful ... DH thought Bailey was dying at one point during the seizure - this is his baby!!!

Re: Bailey had a seizure this morning
I'm sorry about your Bailey. What kind of dog is he. Some breeds are just prone to epilepsy. I had a dog that just passed away on wednesday who was a diabetic for the last 4 years. He suffered from seizures all the time, not from the diabetes, so i know how hard and scary it is to watch your dog go through that. I am sure your Bailey will be okay. for Bailey

Re: Bailey had a seizure this morning
He's a golden ... he'll be 12 on Thursday.
Our vet is not in today but the other vet said if he's somewhat comfortable now, bring him in at 1PM. If anything worries us, just bring him right in.
He definitely seems to be back to knowing us but he may not be seeing well. He's also going through spurts of barking constantly

OMG...Poor Bailey I am so sorry - the poor thing must be so confused. I hope it's either an isolated incident or that they can treat him with meds.

Re: Bailey had a seizure this morning
The vet seems to think it's an isolated incident (he's much older than the normal occurance of epilepsy) so we just need to take it as it comes.
Bailey is doing much better - is eating & drinking normally, seems to be hearing & seeing us and for the most part is relaxed and calm. Haven't been any barking outbursts since the afternoon. Still seems to struggle a little more than usual when he gets up from laying down (his back legs have been getting weaker over the past few months so the strain from the seizure is somewhat more pronounced).
So it appears for now, all is well. Just a little extra concern because he is going to be staying with family in the near future for a few days.
Thanks all for the hugs & concern! I'll give Bailey an extra rub behind the ear from LIF!

Re: Bailey had a seizure this morning
Poor Bailey. Unfortunately, I know what you are going through bc it is the exact same thing that happened to our Yellow Lab that passed in April. He would have been 12 in November. He had one of those seizures the night before he passed. We didn't have enough time to get him to the vet & the next morning we woke up to him already gone.
Hopefully this is isolated but keep a watchful eye over him...

Re: Bailey had a seizure this morning
He really seems to be back to himself for the most part. But DH couldn't sleep all night last night because he was afraid every time he heard Bailey "dreaming", he was having another seizure Tim ended up falling asleep on the couch out of hearing distance from Bailey. It was kinda sad.
DH has been pretty emotional since Saturday morning
ETA: THANKS for all the

Re: Bailey had a seizure this morning
My MIL's golden has been having seizures since July. He is 6. We brought him to Plainview, got all the tests done and walked out with a $3000 bill! He is doing better but is on medication. He only seems to be getting smaller ones about once a month also in his sleep. For the next couple of days after one he is very stiff.
I am so sorry you are going through this also. I know my MIL has a hard time sleeping everynight because she gets so nervous he will have another. I hope Bailey is doing better and am sending hugs his way.
