Re: Baldwin? Freeport?

are school disticts an issue? Freeport has a good elementary program up through 4th grade...many children attend private school after that.

Re: Baldwin? Freeport?

school isn't an issue at the moment (unless it will majorly effect the increase of property value). This is our first home, we probably will upgrade in a few years.

Other than schools, is the area safe/quiet?
I grew up in West Hempstead (Cathedral Garden area) and loved it, but it is a little out of our budget right now to purchase around there.

Re: Baldwin? Freeport?

Regarding safety, depends on the areas in both towns. Personally, I would not send my kids to Baldwin HS and I wouldn't send my kids to probably any school in Freeport.

Re: Baldwin? Freeport?

I teach with two teachers who left Baldwin school district about 6 years ago. They both took over $7K paycuts to come teach in my district because consditions at Baldwin were so bad. Baldwin was very nice 20 years ago. JMO, I wouldn't buy there. I'd go out a bit farther east if I had to.

BTW: The value of your home is very much tied to the perception and quality of the school district since the bulk of your property taxes goes to the school. Everyone of my friends and family bought the house they have more for school district than the exact house. Over time they changed the house into what they wanted.

Seaford's very nice! I, personally, would stay away from Freeport and Baldwin though.
