Hi! I just made it over from LIweddings - this is a great site!

I was wondering what info you guys had on Freeport? The house prices seem great and i love the idea of being near the water, but I've heard that the town has gone through some ups and downs.

Does anyone live there? How are the schools? Any info would be great....

Re: Freeport

As far as I know, the schools aren't great. There are definitely pockets that are considered undesireable - lots of section 8 housing. But they are working to improve their image and clean up the area.

Freeport is an incorporated village - so your electricity bill will be significantly lower than if you rcvd a LIPA bill...and in some instances, you might receive money BACK from LIPA!

Re: Freeport

DH and I are also considering Freeport. There was an article in Newsday a few months ago about its revitalization. We're definitely looking at houses south of Sunrise Hwy close to the Nautical Mile.

Re: Freeport

I don't know how Freeport will be by the time we all have children who are ready for school but the schools are bad and continuing downhill. There are a lot of beautiful houses in Freeport but I also know a lot of people who live there send their kids to private school. I worked at the High School for two school years and it's gone from bad to worse.

Re: Freeport

I worked in the JHS for a year....and second what was said by the previous poster...you would want you child to be tracked accelerated or to go to private school...it is a very different district now than it was even in the 90's

I have 2 aunts that live in Freeport, and my cousin went to Freeport HS. She did ok, but it wasn't the best school. I forget the name of the section of town where she lives, but it is a great area and very well maintained with great houses.
